Parent Training & Information Center and Resources 
Parents of children with disabilities have a passion for obtaining the information they need to support their children's learning and improve their educational outcomes.  T he Parent Training and Information Center at the RI Parent Information Network, has been a  critical resource to parents for twenty-five years . This monthly email will provide details to upcoming events, workshops, articles and website links, along with transition to adulthood and military resources. The PTIC is located at  RI Parent Information Network, 1210 Pontiac Avenue in Cranston, RI.

Secondary Regulations Posted for Public Comment

The current draft of Secondary School Regulations, which were  presented to and approved by the Council on May 17, 2016, is  now undergoing the formal process for recording public  comment, which will be open through September 15, 2016.
All interested parties are invited to participate in the public  hearings and submit written comments concerning the proposed  regulations from July 1, 2016 - September 15, 2016.
The draft Secondary School Regulations and other supporting  documents can be found at:  www.ride.ri.gov/DiplomaSystem

The four public hearings on the proposed draft regulations will be held on:
  • Monday, August 22, 2016 at 5:30pm: Cumberland Public Library
  • Monday, August 29, 2016 at 5:30pm: Newport Public Library
  • Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at 5:30pm: Warwick Public Library
  • Monday, September 12, 2016 at 5:30pm: University of Rhode Island, Providence 
Pathways to Adult Services 
Community Information Sessions (CIS)
Community Information Sessions (CIS) are mini-trainings for families and the professionals who support them.  The below series is a follow up to the Pathways to Adult Services workshop with a focus on community resources to families of transition age (14 - 21) students with disabilities.  

All sessions run Fridays from 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm.

RIPIN offers a wide variety of interactive workshops and training opportunities. Our experienced presenters offer information and support to all Rhode Island families as well as the professionals who work with them.
RIPIN provides direct assistance, including resources, education and training to families and youth with disabilities of transition age (14-26) in understanding the transition process and their rights.
RIPIN offers both  national and state resources,  along with a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) reference guide, navigating families of and professionals who work with students with disabilities.
