C.S. Lewis Institute
Resources for Discipleship of Heart and Mind

Greetings!

First, thank you for your support! You have been generous with your prayers and your resources to support the work of the Institute in Annapolis this past year. (July 2012-June2013).

The May and June newsletters highlighted the activities and accomplishments of the Institute in the past 12 months, so I won't revisit those here. Instead, I want to offer you a word picture of what Jesus is doing with CSLI Annapolis.

Within the Annapolis community, we seek to reach people in every sphere of life. Many are being drawn to CSLI Annapolis to participate in seminars, the year long Fellows Program, student fellowships, chaplain and pastor's fellowships, and other discipleship activities.

After participating in CSLI events, followers of Jesus are motivated to be disciples of Jesus and become mentors, teachers, lay leaders, clergy, i.e. ambassadors for Jesus. They learn to put nationalism, denominationalism, and any other person, institution, or thing that competes for Jesus' right to rule in our hearts at His feet, so that He may reign supreme over all we are and do!

We have witnessed great inroads in the Annapolis community, but we need to do more! As C.S. Lewis says in Mere Christianity: "Enemy-occupied territory - that is what this world is. Christianity is the story of how the rightful king has landed, you might say landed in disguise, and is calling us to take part in a great campaign of sabotage."

We see Jesus' reign being extended in what was once "enemy-occupied territory" and our plan for this new academic year is to increase our efforts.

Again, I thank you for your generosity and ask you to pray for all of us at CSLI that we will adopt George Muller's approach to ministry, that is: to do only what Jesus has ordained, only where He ordains it, and using only the resources He has provided so that "this ministry will bear witness to the fact that there is reality in dealing with God alone."

Amy's Collegiate News:

A new academic year is starting this month and I am PUMPED! I ask your prayers for returning students as well as new freshmen! We are looking forward to welcoming back all of the St. John's family and at the end of the month. On Sunday, August 25, we are going to have a picnic at the Aslan House at 5:00pm. All SJC students are welcome, and it will be a fantastic time of reunion, hearing fun stories from the summer, and finding out about what all is planned for the semester ahead. This will be a great time to get plugged in with other Christians and hear about our men's and women's fellowships that meet weekly as well as other CSLI events.

We are very excited to have our men's and women's fellowships start up again on August 27 and 28. The men will meet as they've always done on Tuesday evenings at the Aslan House at 7:30 for food and fellowship. Our women's group will meet for our tea time on Wednesday at 2:30. Please pray for these fellowships that the Lord would be present at them, and that those who are seeking would be able to come in and find rest! I'm especially looking forward to welcoming new freshmen into these groups.

Something new this semester that we will be offering is an ongoing book discussions, for any St. John's student, on several of C.S. Lewis's key works. The purpose of these book groups is to reach out to unbelievers so that we can build relationships and engage them in discussions of faith. I am still praying about which books exactly the Lord would like me to use, but I ask your prayers for this exciting opportunity!

In October we have Blake Davis joining us for a weekend in Annapolis from ELIC to share about his experiences and the opportunity to teach English in Asia. There will be more details on this to come, but mark for calendars for October 10-13!

In Him,

Amy

Please pray for the men and women associated with the Institute and the lives they have been entrusted to touch. Our ministry in Annapolis is not about numbers, it is about touching the lives of the men and women God brings to us before they go out into His service.
