Dodge City Cowboy Band Performance
July 26 @ Wright Park Bandshell; 7:30 PM

In the 1870s, when Dodge City was known as the "Wickedest City in the West" music wasn't exactly what you expected to hear. By 1882, the Cowboy Band, organized by Chalk Beeson had created quite a reputation and music was just what you did hear at the Long Branch Saloon. Over the years this band has played all over the country. Success continued at home and on the road, including a performance at the April 1889 inauguration of President Benjamin Harrison in Washington, D.C. You can hear strains from this Band perpetuated to this day. The Dodge City Cowboy Band performs each Tuesday evening in Wright Park from the Bandshell. The band's personnel include musicians from high school through adults, with the majority being adults. Summer band concerts can be heard in much of small town America, but few towns can boast as rich a tradition as the Dodge City Cowboy Band.

Boot Hill Distillery Grand Opening
July 30 @ 1:00-8:00 PM

Join us this Dodge City Days to celebrate the revival of a piece of Dodge City and Old West history! During Boot Hill Distillery's grand opening, we will have tours, food, music, and samples! In the spring of 1872, George M. Hoover strapped a load of whiskey barrels to the back of his wagon and counted out exactly five miles to the edge of Fort Dodge's reservation. There, Hoover erected a tent around two posts of sod, on which he laid a foot-wide board to serve as bar. And so, Dodge City, Kansas was born from a barrel. Boot Hill Distillery continues the legend of Dodge City with an obsessive dedication to handcrafted spirits, all locally sourced, milled, distilled and bottled from our very own farms.
