Florida Atlantic University’s Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College has received a $500,000 challenge gift to launch the Morton Research Forum, named in honor of Jeffrey S. Morton, Ph.D., professor of political science in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters and Foreign Policy Association fellow. Thanks to the generous support of Florida Atlantic University’s Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College donors during its 20th anniversary year, the college raised more than $400,000 for the Community Engagement Scholarship Program. Thanks to tremendous support and an anonymous $100,000 Multiplier Challenge, the college is on the way to nearly doubling the number of Community Engagement Scholars in less than two years. Nicole Baganz Joins NAMI Board of Directors

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Palm Beach County elected Nicole Baganz, Ph.D., director of community engagement and programming at FAU's Brain Institute As a new board member during their annual meeting on Nov. 17. The annual meeting also included a presentation on “Early Life Stress: Genes and Environment in Depression Risk and Resiliency,” from Randy Blakley, Ph.D., executive director of FAU’s Brain Institute.

The John W. Kluge Center recently hosted Artificial Intelligence and the Search for Life in the Universe, a discussion of the latest thinking on the search for life and intelligence outside of Earth. The event was co-sponsored by Florida Atlantic University's Center for the Future Mind and featured Susan Schneider, Ph.D. Schneider leads the initiative. She is a joint hire as the William F. Dietrich Professor of Philosophy in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters and the FAU Brain Institute. She is currently the Baruch S. Blumberg NASA/Library of Congress Chair in Astrobiology, Exploration, and Scientific innovation at the Kluge Center.

FAU Hosts Palm Beach County Delegation Hearing

On December 3, the Palm Beach County Legislative Delegation held its second hearing of the new legislative cycle on FAU’s John D. MacArthur Campus at Jupiter. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the delegation is hosting regional meetings for the public to attend, with this meeting focusing on North County issues. President John Kelly spoke at the meeting to welcome the members to the Jupiter campus and thank the legislators for their support of the university and its initiatives
