The Harriet. L Wilkes Honors College hosted a virtual Medallion Ceremony for 56 students in the 2020 graduating class. Program speakers included Interim Dean, Tim Steigenga, Ph.D., Christopher Strain, Ph.D., chair of Social Sciences and Humanities, 2020 Class Speaker Kenzie Waldkoetter, and Dr. Michael Metzner, the Wilkes Honors College 2020 Distinguished Alumni Award Winner.

Wilkes Honors College Graduate Profiles

Abigail Nwiloh was active on campus and community activities while pursuing a degree in Biological and Physical Sciences. Following graduation, Abigail plans to attend Meharry Medical School in Nashville, TN. "Thank you to all the faculty and staff who have supported me throughout the years. I will incorporate all the values and skills that I have learned in my medical career and throughout my life. This is not a goodbye but a "see you later!" said Abigail.

Anita Nwiloh studied courtship behaviors in flies and engaged in school organizations while pursuing a degree in Biological and Physical Sciences. Following graduation, Anita will attend Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN, with her twin sister Abigail. "I will be starting the program this summer. I appreciate all the staff members and my professors for making me who I am today and teaching me all that I know now," said Anita. "I look forward to taking these memories and lessons with me as I move forward."

Florida Atlantic University's Academy for Community Inclusion (ACI) recently received a three year, $900 thousand grant for the Academy for Community Inclusion Enhancement: Expanding Florida Atlantic University's Comprehensive Transition Program, from the Florida Center for Students with Unique Abilities (FCSUA).

"This grant provides funds to ACI to enhance the program by increasing the number of students served and increasing employment opportunities for students upon graduation," said Michael Brady, Ph.D., professor and chair, FAU's Department of Exceptional Student Education.... Read More

Florida Atlantic University received funds from the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act). In accordance with the federal CARES Act, FAU’s total HEERF allocation is $22.4 million of which $11.2 million will be awarded to students as emergency financial aid grants.

On Fridays throughout May, Feeding South Florida will be hosting a food distribution drive-thru on FAU's Jupiter Campus from 9 a.m. to approximately 11 a.m. in lot 73. As a result, you may see increased vehicle traffic on Parkside Drive and around campus.

The fall catalog will be arriving before registration begins on August 3 and will be available online July 27. 


Professor Margery Marcus’ lecture examines the history of thrillers from the Victorian writer Wilkie Collins, who popularized the genre, through the 21st century’s best thrilling reads. It looks at the work of Henry James, Daphne du Maurier, and Patricia Highsmith, along with novels by Dennis Lehane, Gillian Flynn, and A.J. Finn.

Laura Vernon, Ph.D., professor of psychology at the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College and provost fellow of student mental health, offers tips for getting through COVID-19 based on psychology research, including creating a flexible routine, looking for the silver linings, being socially and physically active, and using mindfulness.

Researchers from FAU's Brain Institute “Fun Fridays” program are continuing to provide neuroscience lessons to students at the Edna W. Runner Tutorial Center. FAU Brain Institute Postdoctoral Fellow Lorena Areal, Ph.D., shows how neurons can be visualized using microscopy in this #TutorialCenterMoments virtual field trip. The program is made possible thanks to support from the Stiles Nicholson Foundation and the Donald and Alice P. Hudson Foundation.
