The Tiger's Roar!
Tildenville Elementary School, Winter Garden, FL
"A National Magnet School of Distinction"
Thursday, April 9, 2020

We are already well inside week #2 with our distance learning. Below you will find some terrific images of student and staff engagement from week #1. I realize we have had some bumps in the road getting distance learning off the ground, but kindly remember that only 3 weeks ago or so we had no idea this was coming. At that point we were completely set for an on-time, successful start to the final nine-week quarter of 2019-2020. So, thank you very much for your patience and understanding as we have been ironing out any kinks in the process to serve +200,000 students across the district.

In this issue we have included some important reminders and information for our families as well as some distance learning highlights which I think you will enjoy.
  • Parents, please return student paper packets with the students name, teacher name and grade.
  • Address changes are to be emailed to Nalini Deonarine at [email protected] and cc [email protected]. We will collect address documentation at a later date or you can attach it in the email.
  • Registration is still happening online! Please contact Nalini Deonarine at [email protected] and she will provide directions on how to register.
  • Parents, if you  know someone with an incoming student to Tildenville Elementary please direct them to the registration information above.
  • The drop off packet box and packets are outside all day every day for your convenience (below). Please drop off and pick up as needed.
  • The food pantry is between setup between 9:30am and 1:00pm. It is right outside so help yourself. We will continue the pantry until our supply is gone!
Packets are ready if you need to pick one up. They are outside on the bench. A drop box is also available to drop off any completed work. Please make sure your student's name, teacher and grade level are on the packet.

"Egg shell gardening"

Quotes from kids:

"That's so cool that I made that and I get to eat it!."

Egg Shell Seedlings

1) Fill egg shell 2/3 with moistened soil

2) Add 2 seeds (beans, squash, cucumber, basil, parsley, dill and marigolds are all good options)

3) Spray top soil with water

4) Place in a sunny spot

5) Lightly mist the soil every couple of days as needed.

6) When the seedling has developed its first set of true leaves (these are actually the second set of leaves to appear,) you can transplant it into a larger pot or directly into your garden.

7) Gently crush the shell and remove a few shards around the bottom.  You can plant the whole thing this way, and the egg shell will decompose in the soil, feeding extra nutrients to your seedling.

8) When plants grow too big for the shell, crack the shell and plant them straight in the garden or a bigger pot.  The shell will eventually biodegrade, and the roots will grow out of the shell.  The shell also supplements the calcium in the soil.

These 8 steps are also available here (PDF)
