Avassa Arjune, QCC โ€™21, says the school made possible her successful pursuit of higher ed, giving her the strength she needed to develop into an ambitious and outspoken student. She has paid those prizes forward as a mentor for the CUNY Malave Leadership Academy and a student leader for QCCโ€™s Political Science Society. Avassa will take her Queensborough Community College and CUNY pride with her to Columbia University in the fall.
How did Avassa get here? She has been lucky to meet and study under so many great professors. Avassa thanks Professors Tanya Zhelezcheva, Leslie Francis, John D. Lin and Alison Mello for challenging her as a student and promoting a supportive, cooperative learning environment. These mentors believed in her and acknowledged her work ethic, even when she had her doubts. Avassa says this accomplishment belongs to her family as much as it does to her.
