Cold calling prohibition remains in effect as governor extends state of emergency
Gov. Andrew Cuomo has extended the state of emergency declaration to December 3. Licensees should be aware that this extends the cold calling prohibition, and that they are required to follow all state guidance and directives for conducting real estate activities. According to guidance issued by NYSAR: "Licensees are still prohibited from making any cold calls. . . . You may call a FSBO if you have an identifiable purchaser interested in the property. You are prohibited from calling the FSBO to solicit the listing. You may still perform business to business calls so long as you are calling the number provided as the business number."
State travel advisory rules change
REALTORS® should be aware of the changes to the state's rules for individuals traveling to New York from non-contiguous states. These travelers will now have the ability take a COVID-19 test and avoid the mandatory 14-day quarantine by testing negative. Visitors from contiguous states remain exempt form the rule. Licensees should practice recommended health and travel screening of all current or potential clients/customers.NYSAR has amended its health screening questionnaire to assist members. NAR's Yun predicts market will stay 'hot'
National Association of REALTORS® Chief Economist Lawrence Yun is predicting this winter will be "one of the best winter sales years ever." Low inventory, high demand and record-low mortgage rates are keeping buyers in the market. Many home buyers are looking to upsize their homes as they work from home and their children attend school at home. Also, as remote work remains an option for many and some employers make it a permanent situation for office workers, some house hunters are looking farther away from city limits in search of bigger homes and greater affordability. Education
Changing the way we learn: Zoom proficiency will be the key to earning CE credit into 2021

When it comes to education, the events of 2020 have made it clear that REALTORS will need to master Zoom for remote learning to ensure they are able to earn their required continuing education credits. This will be especially important for licensees who will no longer be "grandfathered in" as of June 21, 2021. Every licensee must meet the CE requirements to keep their license. As with in-person CE classes, Zoom classes have specific requirements including being visible on camera for the entire session and signing 10 minutes before the session starts. To learn more about using Zoom for CE classes, please watch the video.
