When the St. James-Assiniboia Chamber of Commerce celebrated its 50 th anniversary Mayor William Norrie proclaimed the week of April 21 – 27, 1980 St. James-Assiniboia Chamber of Commerce week, in recognition of the accomplishments of civic organization. The St. James-Assiniboia Chamber of Commerce was given this Proclamation.

Hiring a summer student this summer?
Employers are eligible to receive a reimbursement of $7 per hour up to a maximum of $5,000 per student employed between May 1 and September 4, 2020.

Employers can be subsidized to hire up to five students. Payment will be made as a lump sum at the end of the employment period, upon proof of payment of student wages.
Province opens online intake for $120-million Manitoba GAP Protection Program
The provincial government’s online portal to facilitate business applications to the Manitoba Gap Protection Program (MGPP) is now live, Premier Brian Pallister announced today.

“Many Manitoba small and medium-sized businesses are facing significant pressures brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, and we want to help them through this challenging time,” said Pallister. “We created a Manitoba solution to bridge the gap for approximately 20,000 businesses that don’t qualify for the federal funding announced in response to COVID-19, to make sure some relief is available to local businesses so they can minimize layoffs, hire staff back and prepare to safely restore the services they offer to Manitobans.”

Energy producers throughout the world are in uncharted territory. With nearly half the world’s population under some form of lockdown, an equivalent of the United States’ energy demand has evaporated from the global market. Poof.

This pressure alone was sufficient to put long shadows ahead of the industry, but the breakdown of the production cap brokered between OPEC nations and Russia has glutted the market with oil, sending prices down at a breakneck speed, in some corners of the market even into negative territory. Only an oracle would dare predict what is next for Canada’s oil and gas industry. Mere mortals must content themselves with taking stock of what is and what is not within our power as we muddle through the shadow-world of an ‘upside down’ energy market.
