Principles Accord for Treaty Negotiations     
 
UBCM and the Province signed a renewed MOU in September that reaffirms their commitment to engage on Treaty Agreements, Non-Treaty Agreements and Indigenous Initiatives. This broadens the scope of a previous MOU and reflects an approach to Treaty transformation that has now been formalized through the signing of a Principals' Accord on Transforming Treaty Negotiations in British Columbia. Forest Policy Consultation     
 
The Province has issued a notice advising that a multi-year initiative is underway to make improvements to the Forest and Range Practices Act (FRPA) legal framework.  Initial improvements will begin in early 2019, and continue over several years. Read more 
Local Government Fact Sheets      
 
UBCM is pleased to present an updated version of Local Government Fact Sheets : A Guide to Local Government Planning and Operations. This resource provides easy-to-read information on local government operations. Subjects include the role and powers of elected officials; taxation; planning; policing; and bylaws. 
Changes to Bylaw Adjudication Program       
 
The Province has notified local governments that Mediate BC will be withdrawing from its role as the roster organization for the Bylaw Adjudication Program. Mediate BC will remain responsible for all bylaw roster organization adjudication services until March 31, 2019. Read more

FVRD Preparing For Emergencies         
 
The Fraser Valley Regional District received $24,400 from the Community Emergency Preparedness Fund's Emergency Operations Centres and Training (EOC) stream after completing a project to equip a secondary EOC in Hope. The current EOC funding intake, closing on February 1, 2019, provides an opportunity for other local governments and Treaty First Nations to receive funds to enhance their EOC capacity. Read more
