Over 400 children from
Rochester, Rochester Hills, Oakland Township, Auburn Hills and Addison Township
received new hoodies, underwear, socks, hygiene kits, and books from Assistance League of Southeastern Michigan volunteers on August 18, 2018, at Neighborhood House in Rochester Hills. This Blast Off 2 School event was co-hosted by Assistance League, a nonprofit, all-volunteer organization, and Rochester Area Neighborhood House,
a nonprofit human service organization
.
In addition, doctors and nurses from Ascension Health Care offered health assessments of the children in attendance. Neighborhood House volunteers provided backpacks stuffed with new school supplies helpful for each grade level. All the clothing, hygiene items, and backpacks offered a positive start for the coming school year.
Prior to the Blast Off 2 School, collection boxes for school supplies were placed in sites around downtown Rochester, including Assistance League's nonprofit, retail shop ReSale Connection on Main Street and 2nd Street. Sales at ReSale Connection help finance Assistance League's Philanthropic Programs which clothe, feed, educate, and comfort over 20,000 children and adults year round.
Operation School Bell®, their signature program, provided clothing and/or necessities for over 4,000 children in the tri-county area this year at: Blast Off 2 School, six elementary schools, and store shopping for students from four middle schools.
