Tymoshenko Reveals 'Peace Plan' for Eastern Ukraine as She Ramps up Presidential Campaign to Challenge Poroshenko
By Mykola Vorobiov, The Jamestown Foundation's Eurasia Daily Monitor, Nov 12, 2018
Ukraine's presidential campaign is in full swing. Five months out from the election (the first round is scheduled for March 31), it remains entirely unclear who the next head of state will be. Yet, the likeliest contenders are incumbent President Petro Poroshenko and former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko. The two could face off against one another in a second round, which will take place in April. According to polling released last September, if the elections were to be held in the nearest future, Tymoshenko would take 12.9 percent of the vote, while Poroshenko would finish with 8.4 percent (
Censor.net.ua, September 14). The coming election is crucial to Poroshenko as well as Tymoshenko since both candidates have been in politics nearly twenty years and defeat would be difficult to recover from at this point ...

Three Things Ukraine Must Do Now If It Wants Clean Elections Next Year
By Brian Mefford, Atlantic Council, Nov 8, 2018
The parliament renewed Ukraine's highest election body, the Central Election Commission, ahead of the crucial 2019 general elections.
On September 20, the parliament replaced all 13 CEC members who were serving on expired terms. In a swift decision-too swift in the opinion of the opposition-the Rada expanded the membership of the CEC from 15 to 17. Parliament appointed fourteen presidential nominees, two members were carried over from the old CEC, and one seat was left vacant. Rada Speaker Andriy Parubiy and BPP representative Iryna Lutsenko both promised that a nominee from the Opposition Bloc will soon join. Thus, all parliamentary factions will be represented on the renewed CEC.
This move can't come soon enough. The country ...

Western Countries Condemning Separatist Vote In Eastern Ukraine
Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Nov 12, 2018
Kurt Volker, the U.S. special envoy for Ukraine, accused Russia of "institutionalizing
the status quo through sham 'elections'."
KYIV -- The United States, France, and Germany have condemned elections by Russia-backed separatists in eastern Ukraine as a "sham" and "illegal."
Kyiv and its international backers said the November 11 polls in the areas controlled by the separatists in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions would further hamper efforts to end a conflict that has killed more than 10,300 people since April 2014.
However, Moscow argued that the elections to choose ...

What a Little Girl and an Aging Pop Star Can Teach Us about Russian Propaganda
By Iuliia Mendel, Atlantic Council, Nov 12, 2018
Eight-year-old Nina never wanted to be a star on Russian state television. Nevertheless, the Kyiv native was the subject of a one-hour discussion
on Russia's First Channel, a popular national show. The topic was hot: a Ukrainian family wanted their daughter to be taught music in Ukrainian.
Nina's music tutor teaches children using songs of Soviet diva Alla Pugachova who became popular after her hit "Millions of Red Roses" topped the USSR's charts thirty-six years ago. Since then, things have changed. The USSR doesn't exist and Ukraine has been an independent nation for twenty-seven years. Meanwhile, young people don't remember or admire the Soviet system, but it's still there.
The teacher claimed that there aren't any exercises to study voice in Ukrainian ... CLICK
