As we approach the grim anniversary of the COVID-19 shutdown, we reflect on the countless events and experiences lost. It's natural to harbor anger and bitterness in light of non-traditional graduations, dances, Mass services, etc. As many in our community have felt the pinch financially, it's easy to forget those in need before the Great Pause. The pandemic has only amplified the struggles for the at-risk population.
Marquette is helping those affected this Lent. Inspired by the theology department, the school will collect various hygiene, baby, and nutrition products to bundle together into Blazer Blessing Bags.
"One of our missions is to serve our vulnerable brothers and sisters in Christ. Doing a collection drive during Lent gives our students the opportunity to help others. We hope that through this drive we can make a small difference in someone's life. As Saint Mother Theresa said, 'If you can't feed a hundred people, then just feed one,'" theology instructor Kathleen Beeler said.

Baby wipes
Baby shampoo

Cracker snacks/peanut butter
Beef jerky
Trail mix
Bottled Water
The drive will run through March 19th with assembly and distribution to Dunebrook the following week.
Founded in 1989 as a not-for-profit organization, Dunebrook focuses on positive prevention and intervention assistance in child abuse investigations. They serve six counties across Indiana: LaPorte, Porter, Starke, Newton, Jasper, and Pulaski Counties.
