Image Bearings: New Video Work by Women in the Midwest
Image Bearings is an experimental shorts program of new work by women who call the Midwest home. The weight of performance and the comfort of the familiar often encountered by women in this region is a running theme in each work. Each artist interacts with the large flat spaces of the geography by questioning its normalcy and their actions that fall outside that realm. Where each artist feels enamored and repelled is revealed by placing the lens on the water, people, places, and postcards. The screening is 74 min, comprised of five pieces.

Unfinished: Existing On Its Own
Detroit artist Debbee Lotito's consistently stunning works on paper fuse a subtle minimalism with organic figuration and translucent, bleeding waves of color. Her works are whimsical, expressive and engage the viewer via a lucid reservoir of imagination. In the new series, "Unfinished: Existing On Its Own," we find her experimentally contrasting pencil and paint. What at first glance may seem incomplete is not by any means. Each thrilling beauty of unresolved aesthetics is decidedly finished. The viewer is invited to fill-in the blanks with their own imagination.

Opening Reception, Saturday August 11th, 7-11pm.  [Royal Oak]
8700 W. 9 Mile Rd.
