Bebeto Amazan recently graduated from the  Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College thanks to support from the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute Scholarship and the Alice and Don Hudson Scholarship at the Edna Runner Center, he was able to graduate on time. He’ll get an extra boost from FAU’s world-class partner in Jupiter — the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience — where he was accepted as a Post-Baccalaureate Research Experience (PRE) Fellow program for 2019-20.
Abacoa Summer Concert Series 
Florida Atlantic University at Jupiter is participating in the Abacoa Concert Series! On April 27, the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College hosted the FAU Jupiter booth during the first concert at the Abacoa Amphitheatre featuring, "Purple Madness," a Prince Tribute band. Nearly 1500 people turned out. We were excited to showcase what the Honors College has to offer. On May 18, the FAU Brain Institute Ascend Program featured their afterschool program which aims to inspire future neuroscientists currently in middle or high school. Nearly 2,000 people turned out for the concert featuring "Era-Smith," an Aerosmith Tribute Band. The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute will host the FAU Jupiter booth during the next show on June 15, featuring a Neil Young Tribute Band.  
Autism Friendly Natural Area Opens in Jupiter
The FAU Center for Autism and Related Disabilities(CARD) helped open the North Jupiter Flatwoods Natural Area, Florida’s first certified autism friendly public land in the state, on May 9, 2019 in Jupiter. The certification, through FAU’s Center for Autism and Related Disabilities, signifies the result of a partnership between the county and The Learning Academy at the Els Center of Excellence.
On Arbor Day 2019,  Florida Atlantic University at Jupiter celebrated our 9th year as a designated Tree Campus USA. We also held a special tribute to the life of the Arboretum's namesake, Dr. Robert J. Huckshorn. The Robert J. Huckshorn Arboretum is named in honor of the late Dr. Huckshorn, FAU's vice president emeritus and founder of the John D. MacArthur Campus. The arboretum is planted with Florida native plants.
Research
Florida Atlantic University researcher and Brain Institute fellow developed the first algorithm that steers catheters to the right spot to treat atrial fibrillation without the need for special catheters or 3D maps of the heart.
Congratulations to Max Planck Institute and Scripps Research for being ranked as the world's top two stand-alone nonprofit scientific institutions for biomedical research by Nature Index. This is a great honor and reflects the transformative research conducted by both organizations. We are proud to have Max Plank Florida Institute and Scripps Research on the Florida Atlantic University John D. MacArthur Campus at Jupiter. The organizations are helping to shape our students and the growing life sciences industry. 
New Leadership at FAU Jupiter
Florida Atlantic University selected Tim Steigenga, Ph.D., as the interim dean of the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College. Steigenga previously served as a professor of political science and associate dean of campus and community engagement at the College. 
Rod Murphey, Ph.D., is the new associate vice president for academic affairs of FAU's John D. MacArthur Campus. Murphey previously served FAU as chair of Biological Sciences, director of the Jupiter Life Science Initiative, and Director of the Integrative Biology Ph.D. program.
Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College
The  Florida Atlantic University Alumni Association (FAUAA) hosted its annual Hall of Fame and Distinguished Alumni ceremony and reception recently. FAU honored Olsi Gjyshi, Ph.D., B.A. ’10,  Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College for his career accomplishments. The event brought together alumni to celebrate the accomplishments of their most outstanding peers.
Congratulations to the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College class of 2019. On May 2, 88 students were recognized during the Medallion Ceremony held in the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute Complex Auditorium. 14 students received the 2019 Outstanding Thesis Award. Honors College Alumnus, Dr. Olsi Gjyshi, resident physician at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, provided words of wisdom for the graduates.
The Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College announced five new Flagler Scholars. 
Renee Sealy, Deja, Vaughn, Nihasika Gopi, Jiana Baker-Waters and Mario Del Rio comprise the incoming Flagler class of fall 2019. The Henry Morrison Flagler Scholarship Program, created by The William R. Kenan, Jr. Charitable Trust supports exceptional undergraduate students, from the State of Florida, to attend the Honors College of Florida Atlantic University. The Henry Morrison Flagler Scholarship is a full merit award that provides extraordinary student-leaders with the financial freedom to pursue higher education goals and participate in annual enrichment programs. 
The Leon Charney Diplomacy Program received the Distinguished Delegation Award at the National Model United Nations competition in New York City. Thirty FAU undergraduates were led by Jeffrey Morton, Ph.D., professor of political science in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters and Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College, who directs the program
Osher Lifelong Learning Institute
The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Florida Atlantic University’s John D. MacArthur Campus in Jupiter is pleased to announce the appointments of Brenda Babitz, Mark Goldman, M.D., Anne Messer and Lawrence Ornstein to its advisory board. “All four of our new board members embody the spirit of community and bring talent and expertise to our program,” said Eliah Watlington, Ph.D., executive director of OLLI Jupiter.
