Greetings!
Summertime has, hopefully, been a good and refreshing break from the regular day-to-day for us. There is a lot of value in getting away from our regular spaces, encountering new things in the beauty of creation. Making time to pay attention to the things that we sometimes fail to appreciate properly.
At the same time, there are things that are happening in our real world, in our local communities – even in our own families – to which we should be paying close attention, but that instead we do our best to shut out. Sometimes it’s the headlines that seem overfull of bad news. Other times it’s a struggling neighbor or friend that we can’t easily help. I know that I find myself turning away from these things, filling my thoughts and time with distractions that keep them at bay.
This Sunday, in worship, we will look at an ancient encouragement to live a life that’s filled with God’s Spirit – a life that looks different from the evil that’s so regularly a part of the world. Maybe that encouragement is still important for us today. I hope you’ll join us to consider the message for yourself.
Peace,
Hardy
