Jean H. Christensen Honored for
Years of Service
This month we had the honor of acknowledging long-time library supporter Jean Christensen, who is retiring as a Trustee. A special ceremony took place on December 7, 2019 at 2 p.m. before those gathered to enjoy "Harping for the Holidays 3" in the Ventress Library Plaza Program Room.
Marshfield Selectman Chris Rohland presented Jean’s son Todd with a proclamation from the Town of Marshfield for all her years of service. We are so grateful that Jean lent her boundless energy and many talents to the town!!
Jean has served on the Board of Library Trustees, Library Building Committee and as a member of the Friends of the Ventress Memorial Library. Jean volunteered her time to several other Town Boards, including many years on the DPW Board. She has been an active member of the Democratic Town Committee and worked as a poll worker during Town elections. Jean has served the Town of Marshfield for many years and in many ways. Thank you so much for your service, Jean!

VML Cultural Series Presents Two Historical Lectures
to Ring in the New Year!

Join us on January 15, 2020 from 6:30 - 7:45 p.m. for a lecture by South Shore historian Bob Jackman for a presentation on the South Marshfield community and its general store in the 1870s. The event will take place in the Ventress Library Plaza Program Room, Free and open to the public; no tickets. The area known today as "Downtown Marshfield" was identified for hundreds of years as "South Marshfield", and in that era it was the economic engine of the town. In this presentation, Jackman will draw on materials generally not used by local Marshfield historians. The program will also survey some individuals and families who defined the community, and the web of relationships between the residents of South Marshfield and North Duxbury.

Using MACRIS Database to Research Antique
Home Histories
On Monday, February 10, 2020 from 6:30-7:45 p.m., Bob Jackman will give a presentation on various ways of using the MACRIS database to research the histories of antique homes in Massachusetts.
For many decades, the Massachusetts Historical Society has received and filed the architectural and social history about select houses in every town across the state. For over two decades, that information has been available online at the MACRIS (Massachusetts Cultural Resources Information System) website. Jackman will also give an overview of the process of filing information about unlisted homes in order for the information to be posted online within two years. This event will take place in the Ventress Library Plaza Program Room, Free and open to the public; no tickets required.

Here in the children's department, we have our last fall storytimes this week! Don't miss out on a chance to shake your sillies out before we come back in the New Year (our Winter/Spring Storytime Session will begin on January 14th)! Over winter break, enjoy a chance to see one or all of the Toy Story movies at the library, or join us for our Noon Year's Eve party (Dec. 31 from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.) to celebrate the New Year a little early with other families and young children!

We have been busy expanding the collection in the teen department. This month, we began adding two brand new collections: YA Playaways and YA Video Games (we will have XBox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch games). They will be shelved next to the New YA Fiction, where the classics collection used to be. Playaways will be available to check out some time this month; video games will be available to check out in January.
We are also hosting two exciting new programs this month for teens in grades 7-12! We now have a Nintendo Switch. To help break in our new Super Smash Bros game, our Teen Advisory Group is hosting a Super Smash Bros Character Unlocking event from 1-3 p.m. on Thursday, December 12 (Early Release Day).
