Headline News

Cows on billboards, chicken sandwiches, waffle fries, and raving fans...these are several of the special ingredients that have launched a small family business to one of the most recognized brands in the United States.

Companies often ask "How does Chick-fil-A attract their talent?" and guests often remark publicly on Chick-fil-A's second-mile service. The secret is the ALL IN culture that was created by the founder, Truett Cathy. In this general session at our upcoming Annual Meeting & Convention, attendees will gain insight from Chick-fil-A about how leaders can build an enduring culture of service excellence.

After studying the culture for 10 years as an organizational consultant, Dr. Melanie Lankau became a raving fan and left her 24-year career as a Professor of Leadership to join the corporate office of Chick-fil-A. As Senior Manager of Learning & Development Field Operations, she serves on the consulting services strategic team and is responsible for assessing the effectiveness of consulting practices that support the growth of operators and their businesses throughout the U.S.

LCUL Partner Update: Dennis Dollar Provides Breakdown on NCUA FOM Provisions, Provides Analysis of Impact
As a member of the League, credit unions have access to updates from our strategic partners. The latest comes from Dollar Associates LLC: NCUA Board Finalizes Fom And Merger Rules At June Board Meeting.

This past Thursday was perhaps the most active and significant meeting of the NCUA Board during the McWatters era. In addition to affirming its recent change conforming NCUA's member business lending (MBL) rule to the new law impacting loans for dwellings with one-to-four non-owner residents and making them residential loans rather than business loans (thus exempting them from the 12.25% statutory cap on MBLs), the NCUA Board also took two separate 2-0 votes that finalized a couple far reaching and significant rules dealing with field of membership and mergers.

To that end, Dennis Dollar will breakdown the major provisions of each of these three actions and provide an analysis of the impact these rules will have on credit unions going forward.

TRGroup Helps Strengthen Culture with New HR University for Louisiana CUs

The TR Group will hold its first in-person training conference, Human Resources University, on September 25 and 26 in the heart of downtown Nashville, TN.

This two-day conference, led by attorneys from the Richmond based Woods Rogers law firm, will challenge attendees to go beyond surface-level issues and dive into being better human resource administrators for their organizations.

"HR University is the first of many educational offerings the TR Group will bring to the market, benefitting credit unions by producing a high-level training program for their employees," said Charles Elliott, Chairman of the TR Group.

Woods Rogers is an SHRM Preferred Provider. The firm's HR-focused seminars are submitted for approval for continuing education credit to both the Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM) and the Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI).

1st  Quarter LA Credit Union Profiles & Milestones Report Available
LCUL works with CUNA's Economics & Statistics Department to analyze quarterly data submitted by credit unions to NCUA and then provides a quarterly report showing trends in various areas including loan & savings growth, risk trends, membership trends, and more.

We also provide a "milestones" report that looks at top credit unions in the areas of loan penetration, share draft penetration, and average savings balances; this report also highlights credit unions that have reached and exceeded certain amounts for assets, members, and loans.  The reports for the 1st Quarter of 2018 are now complete and have been posted to the League's website.

Pelican Politics

Noting that the number of lawsuits filed related to website accessibility standards under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was 14 times greater in 2017 than 2015, Reps. Ted Budd, R-N.C., and Lou Correa, D-Calif., are urging the Department of Justice (DOJ) to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

While Louisiana successfully escaped the recent round of ADA lawsuits, the issue of clarification is still very much out there. Because of this, LCUL and Adams and Reese were instrumental in getting four Louisiana Representatives to sign the letter on the ADA website accessibility issue.

Read the signed letter here.

We would like to thank Louisiana Representatives Mike Johnson, Ralph Abraham, Garret Graves, and Clay Higgins for continuing to understand our concern over this issue.

Neighbors FCU Announces Winner of 3rd Annual May We Pay Your Mortgage Contest
Neighbors is proud to name Mike Luckett of Prairieville as their third annual May We Pay Your Mortgage contest winner.

Participants were invited to enter by engaging with Neighbors through social media. The contest had more than 2600 entries this year.

"We were very excited to learn we had won," Luckett said. "We are longtime members of Neighbors and appreciate being considered for this contest."

The contest was open to anyone within the nine-parish Greater Baton Rouge area with a mortgage loan, not just NFCU members. However, Luckett has been a Neighbors member for more than 35 years, and his children are third-generation Neighbors members.

"We're thrilled to lend a helping hand to a member of nearly four decades," Neighbors President and CEO Steve Webb said. "We hope that this mortgage payment can provide an opportunity for Mr. Luckett to make some wise financial decisions he might not usually have the budget for."
Campus Federal Facilitates Financial Education Workshops for Youth
Campus Federal facilitated financial education workshops for youth enrolled in the Baton Rouge Mayor's Summer Youth Employment program.

The program gives youth ages 14-17 the opportunity to earn income while engaging in valuable educational and work experiences.

At the Campus Federal led workshops, students learned the importance of saving, budgeting, and building credit to help set them on the path to financial well-being, along with the benefits of credit unions over traditional financial institutions.

The classes were held June 22 in Old South Baton Rouge, just outside the LSU gates.

Quote of the Week:
"If you only think about your own advancement, your own success, you run out of fuel pretty quickly. But if we believe in something bigger than ourselves, that kind of motivation is self-sustaining."
