The Class of 2020,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you during these final weeks. So many high school memories require social interaction - Prom, our annual Armageddon Games, Honors Day, and Commencement. Our ability to conduct these events, while ensuring your health and well-being, was taken away abruptly. This is not how any of us wanted to end this year and your time at Marquette Catholic, but we look to our Lord for strength and trust in His plans.
With the blessings of Most Reverend Robert J. McClory, superintendent of Catholic schools Dr. Joseph J. Majchrowicz, and in coordination with our fellow Catholic high schools, we're announcing our intention to hold a first-of-its-kind Baccalaureate Mass and Commencement Ceremony virtually on Wednesday, June 3rd. The events, which will be pre-recorded, will be available beginning at 5pm CT.
Virtually, Most Reverend McClory will conduct a special Baccalaureate Mass inside St. Mary's with his homily tailored toward you.
In a separate video compilation, we'll honor all 57 of you in the same tradition as in years past. The offering, produced in conjunction with DMZ Productions, will include the traditional Marquette Commencement program with addresses from two summa cum laude honorees, and principal Allyson Headd. We'll read your name, the school you're attending, and display the honors you've achieved during your time here.
Copies of the official Class of 2020 Commencement program, your honors cords, and diplomas will be produced and mailed to you. The video of both the Baccalaureate Mass and Commencement will be posted to and archived on our Facebook page. We want to ensure that all who played a role in your high school career are able to view and celebrate your success and can do so in the safest way possible.
We miss seeing your faces in the hallway. We miss hearing your voices in the choir. We miss watching you represent Marquette on the athletic field. We miss a noisy commons area during lunch. We miss you, but we plan to celebrate you like never before. Until June 3, we will be honoring all of you individually on our Facebook and Instagram accounts with a profile of your favorite memory and your plans for the next chapter. Additionally, we hope the signs acknowledging you as members of the Marquette Class of 2020 bring you pride. We are committed to providing you a ceremony you will feel good about. Graduating high school is a major accomplishment and we are very proud of all of you.
