April 2019 News and Views
Welcome to those who are longtime subscribers and those of you who have recently subscribed. This newsletter will be in two parts mostly because there are so many monumental occurrences in April, so this first part will be about
Jupiter retrograde from April 11-August 10 2019.
The second part, which I will deliver next week, will focus on the beginning of difficult aspects, namely the Saturn-Ketu (South Node) conjunction, which will occur three times between April and October. I have been saying for a while that the last two weeks of April and first of May might see some event or events from earthquakes, fires, terrorism, floods, or passing of a leader that affects the world. We are already feeling those effects since as I write this I am watching this devastating fire that is devastating the beautiful Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. I hope they will soon get it under control and that fire fighters are safe as they try to contain this fire. This cathedral and all the amazing stained glass windows and masterpieces within its walls is truly one of the most magnificent landmarks in Paris and the world and the architectural genius will be missed. This is also devastating for the effects of smoke throughout Paris.

Jupiter goes Retrograde.
April 10-August 11, 2019
Every year Jupiter goes retrograde for four months and does so every 13 months. So whereas last year Jupiter retrograded from March 9-July 10, 2018, this year it retrogrades from April 11 - August 10, 2019.
Though its position in the sky changes each year (due to sign placement and other planets with which it comes into contact), my message for how the Jupiter retrograde affects you does not change. Read below for the specifics of this Jupiter retrograde.
This month, as you can see in the left-hand column, Jupiter stations retrograde on
April 10, 2019 at 5:00 pm GMT at tropical
24° Sagittarius 21'/ sidereal 0° Sagittarius 19' (which also applies to Jyotisa), Mula naksatra, which is ruled by Ketu but in a sign ruled by Jupiter. Then
Jupiter will station direct on August 11, 2019 at 1:37 pm GMT at tropical 14° Sagittarius 30'/sidereal 20° Scorpio 28', jyeṣṭha, ruled by Mercury but in a sign ruled by Mars.
Wherever Jupiter is in your chart is an area that may suddenly slow up or come to a halt as Jupiter begins a new footing over the next four months. Retrogrades are close to the earth and are slower in motion so it also cautions you not to take as many risks as perhaps you had been doing before. Think and restructure things that might suddenly start to stall. Remember though that it may stall but not end, especially if transiting Jupiter hits a planet or point or angle that lie on the degree it stations (where it will be twice) or in between the degrees where it goes direct and retrograde.
Generally, Jupiter affects us all but it will affect you personally if you have any planets, points, or angles between tropical 24° Sagittarius 21'/ sidereal 0° Sagittarius 19' - 14° Sagittarius 30'/sidereal 20° Scorpio 28' since Jupiter hits those degrees three times--when Jupiter goes direct, then retrograde, and then direct. If you have anything around the stationary points, then you will get hit twice, but it will be the most intense transit because it is a station, which means the planet is slower-moving and close to the earth.
Whatever house or houses comprise that degree span is where you will feel the ability to achieve this year. Just remember that during the retrograde things relating to that house slow up but especially mid August through mid November, that Jupiter will bring you everything you set in motion. Just remember to take this retrograde time to reflect and plan ahead for when it goes direct. Always make sure you have a Plan B, if you do not want to wait for things to complete after Jupiter goes direct.
I always tell people that with the planet of abundance stationing, slowing up, and going retrograde, that if they are trying to sell their house, or make a profit, Jupiter's four month retrograde is not the time to do it. Sometimes you must and cannot wait, and it may just mean the profit is not as great, unless of course the aspects in your chart point otherwise.
Jupiter is the greater benefic, and always brings expansion but also false hopes of security. Sometimes Jupiter makes us feel so complacent that we do not see the writing on the wall. Jupiter stationing retrograde has a lot to do with the reversals of power, and because astrology is universal, this will happen all over the world. The markets and the economy will be a bit wonky this month, some days seeming to increase and some days seeming to decrease. Yes it has been like that for a while, but for those market watchers, take note as to which stocks and commodities seem to be affected this month by that slow down, since those same stocks may start to soar when Jupiter moves direct mid-August until it changes signs on November 4 in the sidereal zodiac, and December 2nd in the tropical zodiac. Stay firm and don't sell anything from stocks to houses to movie scripts unless you must.
Next year's Jupiter Pluto conjunction will smooth over many things that have consolidated during the Saturn Pluto conjunction.
As the real estate market slows during this Jupiter retrograde, buying a home, condo, new car, or even time share could be something to think about since buying is good when Jupiter retrogrades since sellers make less profit.
Projects may be stalled but they will then resume so don't be frustrated, and instead use this as a period of reflection and planning. Avenues where you thought you could profit like selling homes and businesses will not do as well as expected. As a rule, I always think of Jupiter retrograde periods as a halt to a seller's market, and this could be a good time to buy.
You can always look at the area of your chart that encompasses the Jupiter transit, and see what the houses below indicate and that may be the area that you will have to think about. Those houses will be in the forefront of your life now.
The houses have similar meanings in both Tropical and Jyotisa, but since there are some differences here is the list below of a few keywords for each house in each system. They are by no means exhaustive
Tropical Houses: 1. personality, body, appearance; 2. finances, possessions, values; 3. communication, siblings, short journeys, learning; 4. Family, Mother, Home; 5. children, recreation, entertainment; 6. Health, service, pets; 7. marriage, contracts, partnership; 8. business transactions, sexuality, life and death matters; 9. Higher education, travel abroad, publishing, law; 10. profession, status, father; 11. gains, friendships, hopes, dreams; 12. compassion, spirituality, limitations, solitude
Vedic Bhavas (Houses): 1. appearance, destiny, temperament, personality, constitution; 2. Money, family life, food, speech, early childhood; 3. Siblings, Fine arts, courage, desires; 4. Mother, happiness, real estate, vehicles; 5. Children, romance, investments, speculation; 6. Open enemies, work, competition, obstacles, illness; 7. Marriage, partners, contracts, passion; 8. Life and death cycle, research, accidents, other's money, inheritance; 9. Father, teacher (guru), religion, higher learning, opportunity; 10. Career, status, public recognition, reputation; 11. Profits, rewards, gains from work, awards, older siblings; 12. spiritual practice, secret enemies, foreign travel, debt, confinement.
Note for Indian astrologers
. This year is unique according to the sidereal (Indian) zodiac, since Jupiter entered Sagittarius on March 27th, retrograded on April 10th and re-enters Scorpio on April 25th. So that means that for most of this month Jupiter is at 0 Sagittarius, which is considered to be gandanta which is 26 degrees 40 minutes -3 degrees 20 minutes of Pisces-Aries, Cancer-Leo, Scorpio-Sagittarius. It is equivalent of the last and first pada, or quarter (3 degrees 20 minutes) of Revati-Asvini, Ashlesha- Magha, Jyeshtha-Mula, or the nakshhatras ruled by Mercury and Ketu. The nakshatras are each 13 degrees 20 minutes so the pada is 1/4. What that means is that what Jupiter does during its time in Sagittarius this month though retrograde gives a hint of what it may be doing once it moves there definitively on November 4.

Saturday. March 30. 10:00-5:00 PM. Get the recordings and handouts. The panchang (almanac) and look at the classical ways to choose the most auspicious dates and times to begin events. We will go over planetary hours, as well as the Panchang elements: day of the week, Nakshatra, Tithi, Yoga, and Karana. Rules for specific topics such as marriage, surgery, moving house, travel etc. We will go over setting up an electional chart from start to finish. We will use my marriage date and time and surgery date and time as examples of how to set up an chart from start to finish, as well as surgery chart. Looking at the chart of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Even if you think you know this material, there is always more that you may not know.
Saturday May 18. 10:00-5:00 PM.
Advanced Methods of Prediction. Continuing with more muhurta techniques including tarabala. Adding to the repertoire of Vimshottari Dasha and transits, we will look at Varshaphal (solar returns), which is part of Tajika, or Persian, astrology that entered the Indian system around the end of the first millennium. Sudarshana Chakra, which is a proven predictive method; Yogini Dasha and then we will blend them all to find the key to forecasting. Case studies will illustrate.
Saturday June 15. 10:00-5:00 PM. Remedial measures. Introduction to Jaimini Techniques. Karaka system; Rashi aspects, Arudha Lagna, Chara Dasha, etc. Case studies. This will be taken, as much as possible, from the Upadesa Sutras, the classic text on Jaimini astrology, which is the basis for many (though not all) teachers' approach to this system.

Each workshop will include a short break in the morning and afternoon and a lunch break. It will begin with planetary weather, continuing with specialized topics, and then have case studies. As much as possible we will look to the classical texts and teachings. These workshops are meant as a series and are geared towards those who have taken previous classes with me. But they can also be taken as standalones (it is cheaper to sign up for all three) and you just need to have basic knowledge. If there is something you do not know I will get you up-to-date. Some (but not all) planetary signatures covered as follows:

- Eclipses. January 5 (6), January 21, July 2, July 16, December 26 (and the one on January 10, 2020). All the eclipses are part of the 18 year Saros cycle, and, except for the one on January 5 (6), part of the 19 year Metonic cycle. (If you heard my NCGR Eclipse webinar or attended my Philadelphia talk, some of the information will be repeated but only on eclipses.)
- Planetary Stations. Annual retrograde cycles of Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. (Stations of Saturn and Pluto especially important because they are close to eclipses)
- Aspects. Some of the more important aspects for 2019 are as follows.
- Jupiter square Neptune on January 13, June 16, and September 21.
- Saturn and Pluto will not be conjunct until January 12, 2020, but they will be moving close to each other, and will be joined by Jupiter in 2020, so their positions will be looked at.
- Saturn-Ketu (South Node) conjunction occurs three times because Saturn is retrograde: April 30, July 4, September 28. Since in Indian astrology Ketu, or South Node, takes on the qualities of Mars, so it is like having a Saturn-Mars conjunction.
- Pluto-Ketu (South Node) April 4. Like having a Pluto-Mars conjunction. and more.
- Tropical Ingresses. This year Uranus makes definitive entrance into Taurus on March 6, 2019. Jupiter will be in Sagittarius all year until December 2 when it moves into Capricorn.
- Sidereal Ingresses. The Nodes move into Gemini (Rahu-North Node) and Sagittarius (Ketu-South Node) on March 23. Jupiter is presently in Scorpio. It moves into Sagittarius on March 23 and retrogrades back into Scorpio on April 25, and moves definitively into Sagittarius on November 4.
