Legislators Advance Budget Bills
With less than a month before the end of session, legislators moved budget bills to the floor with the hope of getting them to the governor's office. The House has passed funding bills to the floor where they will soon be considered. As of this writing, the Senate was debating its omnibus budget package. Read more here

Annual Conference - Submit a Session Idea
The MMA is now accepting proposals for sessions at this year's 2018 Annual Conference, Sept. 21 and 22, at the St. Paul RiverCentre. Submission deadline is April 30. Read more here
Mankato-Area Physicians Gather for 2018's First Doctors' Lounge
More than two dozen physicians turned out for the year's first Doctors' Lounge held April 24 in Mankato. As part of the informal gathering, the group discussed Tobacco 21 legislation, which was recently up for debate at the Mankato City Council. The next Doctors' Lounge will take place May 10 in St. Cloud. For more information, click here.  
Safely Dispose of Unused Prescriptions on April 28
National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 28. Local take back events can be found on the Drug Enforcement Administration's website.
Volunteers Needed for Work on Physician Satisfaction
The MMA is looking for physicians to help guide development of programming in support of physician wellbeing/physician satisfaction. The MMA began work on this issue in 2010 and is looking to understand current work underway across the state and identify potential gaps. If you are interested in helping guide MMA activity in this area, please contact Shari Nelson.
Med Students Get Hands-on Demo with Nalaxone
Members of Hands on Advocacy (HOA) gathered April 18 at the MMA office to meet with representatives from the Steve Rummler Hope Network to receive training on how to administer naloxone. HOA is a student-created, student-led experiential learning project started by students within the MMA - Medical Student Section (MMA-MSS) that provides a structured opportunity for medical students to run an advocacy campaign on a public health topic. This year they are working on addressing the opioid epidemic.
