New Study Reshapes Understanding of How the Brain Recovers from Injury New research from the Department of Psychology's Brad Mahon sheds light on how damage in the brain caused by a stroke can lead to permanent vision impairment for approximately 265,000 Americans each year. His team's findings could provide researchers with a blueprint to better identify which areas of vision are recoverable, facilitating the development of more effective interventions. Read more

N ew Academic Programs Launch Carnegie Mellon has launched two new degree programs with roots in the Dietrich College. 2019 Alumni Award Honorees Announced Eileen R. Heisman (DC 1976), left, and Farah Y. Zaman, Esq. (DC 2009), right, are among the 2019 CMU Alumni Award winners. Heiseman will receive an Alumni Achievement Award, and Zaman will receive an Outstanding Young Alumni Award. Learn more

Alumni Spotlight: Emmy Award-winning Journalist Makes History Nitya Chambers (DC 2001), vice president for content development at CNN Digital Worldwide, was part of the executive team that produced “Explore Parts Unknown,” the online home for the acclaimed series starring the late Anthony Bourdain. Her team won the 2018 Emmy Award for Outstanding Short Form Nonfiction, making Chambers the first Dietrich College graduate to win such an award. Read more
