Monday, March 2, 2020

Welcome to Freedom High School where learning is our top priority and our focus is on literacy, rigor and relationships. Our school's pillars of honor, excellence and tradition continue to be on display on a daily basis by our students, staff, and community.

OCPS Parent Survey Link
Parents, we are still short of our 20% completion goal to our Annual OCPS Accreditation Survey. Since the survey will be taken down next month, if you haven't done so, please take a few minutes of your time to complete the survey. Please click https://ocps.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_38ZEa36rGBGv8zP to access the parent/guardian survey. Be sure to select our school before beginning the survey. As always thank you so much for taking the time to help improve our school goals.

School-Wide SAT
On Wednesday, the entire junior class (and some seniors) will be taking the SAT. As a reminder we (and the entire district) will be on a regular long day bell schedule. I am confident your child is ready for this test. Please help ensure your child gets a good night's rest, eats a good breakfast, and is focused on doing their best.

Rigor Around Campus
AP U.S. History
Rigor around campus is on the move once again. Recently, the Advance Placement United States History students of Freedom High School visited the law offices of Rumberger, Kirk & Caldwell. Students practiced their thinking skills used by studying primary and secondary source evidence and analyzing a wide array of historical cases through their participation in the Street Law initiative sponsored by Allstate Insurance Company and Rumberger, Kirk & Caldwell.

The learning experiences included, but were not limited to, role playing as attorneys on a legal team. The legal team had to determine marketing and advertisement cases for litigation. They also had to settle cases in entertainment law to prevent the case from going to trial. The students participated in a job fair as well for the purpose of exploring careers in the field of law. They interacted with court reporters, paralegals, attorneys, and judges.

Overall, the students exercised their thinking skills and reasoning processes, which are central to the study and practice of United States history.

French Honor Society at Orlando's Le Coq au Vin restaurant

On Wednesday, February 26th, the members of the French Honor Society along with French teachers Mr. Miscannon, Mrs. Tawil, and Mr. Wiler enjoyed a delicious meal at one of Orlando's authentic French restaurants Le Coq au Vin. Students were able to experience traditional French foods while conversing with the French servers. It was a wonderful opportunity for the students to see how their hard work in the classroom can result in fun evening of French immersion amongst their peers who share their passion for the French language and culture!
