2020 Fall News from A-B Tech College Advancement

Greetings!

A-B Tech students returned to campus for the fall semester under our "Plan B" opening procedures on August 17th. The A-B Tech community is working hard to make our campuses as safe and accessible as possible during this difficult time. The Office of College Advancement and the Ivy Building remain closed, but our staff is still hard at work from our remote locations! We are continuing to facilitate the distribution of hundreds of scholarships for this academic year, broadening our outreach to A-B Tech Alumni, as well as re-imagining Autumn in Asheville as a virtual event this year. More information about Autumn in Asheville: Virtual Cocktail Hour, and how you can join us from the comfort of your own home can be found below.

Ferguson Endowed Nursing Chair

On August 3, 2020 the A-B Tech Board of Trustees adopted a resolution creating the “Jack and Carolyn Ferguson Endowed Nursing Chair.” Jack and Carolyn Ferguson have supported A-B Tech College and the A-B Foundation for over 15 years. Jack Ferguson passed away in May 2020 and The College, along with College Advancement thought it important to recognize the couple's long and storied support of A-B Tech, and specifically allied health programs. Welcome Christi Climbingbear to College Advancement

We are thrilled to welcome Christi Climbingbear as the new Grants & Foundation Accountant for College Advancement. Christi earned a BSBA double majoring in Accounting and Corporate Finance from Western Carolina University. She previously worked for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians for almost 10 years in the Office of Budget & Finance serving in job duties including, Accounting Intern, Accountant I, Sr. Grants/Contracts Compliance Officer, Interim Compliance Manager, and Accounting Coordinator II. Christi also worked for the Town of Pineville in the Telecommunications Division as Administrative Officer/Financial Analyst for two and half years. Lastly, Christi worked for Union County Government’s Administrative Services division in Finance for almost four years as Sr. Accounting Technician and also Interim Financial Analyst.

"I am happy to be back in the mountains of Western North Carolina. I enjoy spending time with family and watching my two boys play sports. I am excited to join my new team here at A-B Tech!"

Autumn in Asheville Goes Digital!

Autumn in Asheville 2020 is going digital! Please join us for this year's event, Autumn in Asheville: Virtual Cocktail Hour, and help raise funds for culinary scholarships. A $15 ticket gets you access to this exciting online event where you will hear from students, donors, and even a special celebrity guest! Additional ticket levels are available and include benefits like a selection of handmade chocolates from the A-B Tech Culinary Department, and much more!

Introducing the Alumni Business Network

College Advancement is excited to announce a new initiative, the A-B Tech Alumni Business Network. In addition to helping promote alumni owned businesses on the alumni webpage and in the newsletter, we hope to connect recent A-B Tech graduates with local alumni business owners.
