Alamo Colleges District Launches AlamoONLINE
At a press conference on Friday, May 3, the Alamo Colleges District literally rolled out its new online college initiative, complete with a VIA bus on site, emblazoned with an ad promoting AlamoONLINE - College. When & Where You Want It. Speaking at the launch event were Alamo Colleges District Chancellor Dr. Mike Flores, Board of Trustees Chair Marcelo Casillas, St. Philip's College President Dr. Adena Williams Loston, Vice Chancellor for Academic Success Dr. George Railey, Jr. and Chief Online Learning Officer and Associate Vice Chancellor for AlamoONLINE Dr. Luke Dowden. The district and the colleges are committed to offer a top-quality digital learning experience for more exclusively online students.
Alamo Colleges District Nets $269,464 TWC Grant To Train Workers For High-Tech Jobs
The Alamo Colleges District announced it is collaborating with Toyotetsu Texas Inc. and Forma Automotive LLC for a $269,464 Skills Development Fund Grant from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). The grant will benefit workers in the Workforce Solutions Alamo area. This grant will be used to provide custom training to 153 new and incumbent workers with a focus on manufacturing. The training will be provided by faculty from all five of the Alamo Colleges District's colleges.
AlamoPROMISE Steering Committee Powered By Top Local Leaders
A blue ribbon roster of local business, education and non-profit leaders gathered today for their first meeting as the steering committee for the Alamo Colleges District’s AlamoPROMISE initiative. Chairing the committee are Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff, Mayor Ron Nirenberg and Alamo Colleges District Chancellor Dr. Mike Flores.
The district is working collaboratively with the city and county to make the concept of AlamoPROMISE a reality.
Alamo Colleges District Board Of Trustees Selects Gomez As New Student Trustee
At a special meeting on April 17, the Alamo Colleges District Board of Trustees selected Northeast Lakeview College (NLC) student Alejandra Gomez as the new student trustee. The Alamo Colleges District is one of the few community college systems in the state with a student trustee. Gomez will serve a one-year term, beginning May 1, 2019, and running through April 30, 2020.
San Antonio College's Student Advocacy Center Receives $760,000 United Way Grant
In November of 2018, the San Antonio College Student Advocacy Center, for the first time, submitted a proposal to the United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County. The center was looking for funds to create a helpline to support students at SAC and the other colleges in the Alamo Colleges District.
United Way awarded the Student Advocacy Center a $760,000 grant to be given over a period of five years to fund the helpline.
A Pathway To College - Dr. Seuss Style - At Northeast Lakeview College
To celebrate Dr. Seuss’ Day, Northeast Lakeview College (NLC) hosted more than 200 first graders from elementary schools in its service area. The students participated in various Dr. Seuss activities, including the reading of “Green Eggs and Ham.” Other activities throughout the day included arts and crafts that relate to a college-going culture and being photographed in a cap and gown while holding a college diploma cover.
Alamo Colleges To Offer Array Of Youth Summer Programming
In keeping with our mission of empowering our diverse communities for success, several of the Alamo Colleges will offer a range of summer programs for elementary, middle and high school students. Summer youth program dates, times and costs vary at participating San Antonio College, St. Philip's College, Palo Alto College and Northwest Vista College.
