2020 Virtual Contractor Expo
In July we hosted the 2020 Pure Water San Diego Virtual Contractor Expo to officially announce that the advertisement of the Phase 1 construction packages would restart and to notify interested prime contractors and subcontractors about how to do business with the City. Using a combination of Zoom Webinar and the digital platform SeekBeak, Expo attendees were able to gather information about the six projects bidding in 2020.

Attendees first joined a webinar to learn about what is included in each construction package, the bid and construction schedule, and how to participate in the bidding process. This was followed by the SeekBeak open house, where everyone could navigate from the virtual lobby to the six project "booths." Each booth included informational materials, overview videos and a link to a live Q&A with the project manager.

The Expo had over 250 attendees, including 35 prime contractors and 103 subcontractors. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make it a success!
Phase 1 Construction Update
Construction of the Phase 1 projects is moving forward! In August, the first construction packages, including the North City Pure Water Facility & Pump Station and the Morena Northern Alignment & Tunnels, were advertised to potential bidders, and more will be released in the coming months and into 2021. There are eleven construction packages that are part of Phase 1.
Construction is anticipated to begin in early 2021, starting with the Morena Northern Alignment & Tunnels. The projects will then be constructed in stages over the next four years.

Phase 1 Working Groups
Members of the Clairemont and Bay Park/Morena Working Groups were reconvened in August for a virtual meeting to hear Program updates and how their feedback is being incorporated into construction planning for the projects in their community. Program updates were also shared with the members of the University City and Scripps Ranch/Miramar Working Groups.
Four community working groups were created in 2018 to gather input from representatives from the communities that will be impacted by Phase 1 construction activities. The Working Groups have been instrumental in providing input for the construction bid specifications and community outreach plans, and we greatly appreciate their continued participation and feedback. All the Working Group materials are available here.
A Call to Educators!
Educational Toolkits for Virtual Classrooms
The Pure Water team has developed lesson plan toolkits with information about the Pure Water Program, San Diego’s water supply and the technology behind the water purification process. There is a K-5 version as well as one for older students, and both versions include “Water You Know,” a game to quiz the students on information learned during the lesson.

These educational supplements are a great way to discuss one of the most vital resources on the planet in a visually stimulating and fun way.

Interested in a toolkit for your virtual classroom? Please contact us at purewatersd@sandiego.gov.
Virtual Speakers Bureau
We continue to offer presentations for classes, organizations, etc. that are interested in learning the latest about the Pure Water Program.
