TOWN HALL Meeting
The Dominical Feast Of The Nativity & The Epiphany Of The Lord
On Saturday, January 6th, 2018, despite the bitter cold weather a large number of parishioners gathered at St. Sarkis Church to celebrate the Dominical Feast of The Nativity & Epiphany of Our Lord Jesus Christ. The Divine Liturgy was celebrated by His Grace Bishop Anoushavan Tanielian, Vicar General, who also delivered a sermon.
Following the Badarak was the Blessing of Water Service, symbolizing the baptism of Christ in the River Jordan.

The Godfather of the Cross was Hovsep Terterian, Fr. Nareg & Yn. Annie's oldest son. Hovsep is a Saturday School student, a Sunday School student and an alter server at St. Sarkis Church. We are very proud of you!
As the service concluded parishioners received their blessed water, then processed downstairs to the main hall for a Saturday School Christmas Hantes.
Saturday School Christmas Hantes
Article written by Anette Givelekian
This year, we were blessed to have our Christmas Hantes on Saturday, January 6th, 2018. We enjoyed an afternoon full of meaningful performances by our Suzanne and Hovsep Hagopian Saturday School students.

The program began with the children singing in their angelic voices, the Lord's Prayer, Hayr Mer and our National Anthem Mer Hayrenik.

Mrs. Nairy Zohrabian, the principal of the Saturday School, welcomed His Grace Bishop Anoushavan Tantelian, Vicar General of the Eastern Prelacy, Rev. Fr. Nareg Terterian and guests.

The program started with Nursery, Pre-K and Kindergarten students. The audience was mesmerized with their nativity costumes along with their special Christmas performances and carols. Students in grades 1st through 7th and post graduates recited verses from the Holy Bible, about the promised Messiah, describing the nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ and sang Armenian Christmas Carols. When the children and the crowd started singing 'Gaghant Baba' suddenly Santa Clause appeared with a bag of gifts.

We would like to thank the Saturday School PTA for all their help and dedication in organizing the Hantes and donating the delicious desserts. We would also like to thank Rev. Fr. Nareg Terterian, Mrs. Nairy Zohrabian and St. Sarkis Church office staff for helping put together this performance. Despite the bitter cold weather, we had a packed house with lots of warmth inside the room to melt all the ice snow that came down a few days prior.

Thank you to all those who came out to support our students and our school.
Blessing of the House / Church
House Blessing service is part of the tradition of the Armenian Apostolic Church and this service is performed in our homes following the Dominical Feasts of Nativity and Easter.
Last Sunday our Prelate, His Eminence Archbishop Oshagan visited St. Sarkis Armenian Apostolic Church and following church services he conducted a house blessing service in the Main Hall of St. Sarkis Church - a place that feels like a second home for so many of our parishioners.

THE FIRST EPISTLE OF ST. PAUL TO TIMOTHY (1:1-11 )
Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the command of God our Savior and of Christ Jesus our hope,
To Timothy my true son in the faith:
Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain men not to teach false doctrines any longer nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. These promote controversies rather than God's work-which is by faith. The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. Some have wandered away from these and turned to meaningless talk. They want to be teachers of the law, but they do not know what they are talking about or what they so confidently affirm.
We know that the law is good if one uses it properly. We also know that law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious; for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, for adulterers and perverts, for slave traders and liars and perjurers-and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine that conforms to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me.

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST ACCORDING TO JOHN (2:1-11)
On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. When the wine gave out, the mother of Jesus said to him, "They have no wine.: And Jesus said to her, "Woman what concern is that to you and to me? My hour has not yet come." His mother said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you." Jesus said to them, "Fill the jars with water." And they filled them up to the brim. He said to them, "Now draw some out, and take it to the chief steward." So they took it. When the steward tasted the water that had become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the steward called the bridegroom and said to him, "Everyone serves the good wine first, and then the inferior wine after the guests have become drunk. "But you have kept the good wine until now." Jesus did this, the first of his signs, in Cana of Galilee, and revealed his glory, and his disciples believed in him."

Liturgical Calendar (From Crossroads: E-Newsletter of the Armenian Prelacy)
"GIVING LIGHT TO THOSE WHO SIT IN DARKNESS..."
On Monday, January 15, the Armenian Church commemorates the Feast of the Birth of St. John the Forerunner (also known as St. John the Baptist). The elderly couple Zechariah and Elizabeth welcomed with great joy the birth of their son who they named John just as the angel Gabriel had instructed. Neighbors and relatives, who had gathered to celebrate the birth of this special child, pondered about his future asking, "What then will this child become?"
Having gained his voice after months of silence, Zechariah said, "And you, child will be called the prophet of the Most High; for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways, to give knowledge of salvation to his people by the forgiveness of their sins. By the tender mercy of our God, the dawn from on high will break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace." (Luke 1:76-79)
Hasten to our help from on high, Saint John, apostle and prophet and forerunner and baptizer of the Son of God and intercede for us before Christ. You are the priest who offered himself on the cross; beseech him to grant purification from sins to me who composed this hymn and to those who celebrate your memory; Saint John, intercede for us before Christ."
(Canon for the Nativity of John the Baptist according to the Liturgical Canons of the Armenian Church)
Also commemorated this week:
Tuesday, January 16: Sts. Peter the Patriarch, Bishop Blaise, and Deacon Absolom.
Thursday, January 18: St. Anthony the Hermit.
