Religious Education News
Unitarian Universalist Church of Canton

RE Mission
Our religious education program works
to create an accepting environment that empowers children and youth to explore their spirituality, celebrate diversity, and live our Unitarian Universalist values.
Family Ministry
We believe that families play a vital role in furthering this empowerment to explore and live our UU values. We are excited to support our families by offering ideas from the UUA's Tapestry of Faith program as well as graces and thought provoking questions related to the topics introduced during Sunday religious education classes. We hope you find this new initiative enjoyable and spiritually fulfilling for your whole family.
In RE Next Week
Our children and youth will make cards, hear a story about butterflies, exploring the concept of responsibility, wrapping up GAYT program, continuing to explore Christianity and more.  Check out the church website and our Facebook page for details.

For the Week of February 4, 2018
A Table Grace:
From forest and stream, from mountain and fields,
from the fertile Earth's nourishing yields,
I now partake of the Divine Energy;
may it lend me health, strength, and love
Chalice Lighting:
For the gift of this day and for our community of spiritual nurture and compassion, we give thanks.
We light this chalice as a symbol of our faith.
May our many sparks meet and merge in communion of heart and soul.

Please consider utilizing these ideas to deepen and inspire your faith during the week.
Contemplation Topic - During a shared meal with family or friends or as part of a contemplative practice, ponder this quote by Mohandas K. Gandhi - "Non-violence is not a garment to be put on and off at will. Its seat is in the heart, and it must be an inseparable part of our very being."
Thirty Days of Love - Enjoy participating in this Side with Love program.  The theme for this week is Drought Times: Endurance and Commitment. How do we keep going? How do we persevere, carry the water we need and endure the lean times?  Click here for the weekly message and spiritual resources.
Inspired by our Moral Tales Class -  Make your own family version of the board game, Scruples. Using index cards, write down situations that require ethical thinking, such as whether or not to share your favorite dessert, whether or not to admit that you flushed the rubber ducky down the toilet and caused the overflow, or how to react when given a gift you do not like. Be sure to have situations that children might face. To play the game, turn the deck of index cards over and have each family member in turn choose a card and speak about how they would behave in the given circumstance. You can also bring the cards along to pass the time on long car drives or while waiting in restaurants. Encourage everyone to think about how Unitarian Universalist values influence their answers.
