Hearts N' Hands Thank You
On December 13, AV Volunteers did some cleanup in the garden and kitchen of member Patricia Brucker.
Patricia wrote us:
"I just want you to know what a wonderful gift the Hearts N' Hands Program gives to aging Seniors!
Melissa, the intrepid leader, arrived with a team of volunteers, some of whom transformed the front garden and others washed the kitchen walls. It has never looked so good! For lunch we all sat around the table on the patio, ate pizza and salad, introduced ourselves and shared stories.
The most wonderful feeling was how everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, and the result is so beautiful and such a relief since I can no longer be that energetic! This Program is an enormous Gift to Seniors, members of Ashby Village.
THANK YOU Melissa, Lula, Michelle, Diane, Betsy, Maryl and Barbara! HAPPY NEW YEAR."

Russ Ellis (Reframing Aging: Bonus Edition)
"I'm always learning. As a person, I think I've always been that way. And it turns out that I'm not as thin-skinned about criticism of my work as I thought. I seem to absorb the blows. I think that has to do with being old-I'm absolutely certain it does!"

Technology security: time to update your devices!
While the average person has little to fear, it is still important to update the operating systems of your computers, smartphones and tablets.
If you're familiar with update procedures, we hope this reminder encourages you to do so now. You can also use the information for various devices assembled by Sam Duncan and Maryl Gearhart.
If you need assistance with your updates, contact the office at [email protected] or 510-204-9200.

Poetry Reading: to read personally written and/or published poetry. Discussions of the readings are likely to follow. Scrabble: to play one or more games of Scrabble, thus providing an escape from Bridge and Mahjong. Memoir Writing: to write memoirs, guided by an experienced memoir writer. Bridge
Contact Don Hubbard if you are interested in forming any of the above groups.

Searching for assistance with upcoming Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
I am looking for a volunteer to serve as an Executive Assistant, to join me (AV Member and Chair of Committee) in putting together the conference to be held at the Ed Roberts Campus in May. The Subcommittee members, some of whom have a disability, are working all-out on this, but it is clear we need someone who can be a Jack- or Jill-of-all-trades when it comes to turning out the finished product for public participation. If this interests you and you want to find out more, please contact
Rita.
