Annual CA Earned Income Tax Credit Form Reminder
|
Just a reminder for members that Form W-2’s or Forms 1099 are due no later than today, January 31 of any given year. With that being said, another form that is essential in California is the CA Earned Income Tax Credit Notice. The EITC is a tax credit available to workers who do not exceed specific salary and investment income thresholds, have valid social security numbers and meet certain other requirements.
California law requires that employers provide the notice of possible federal and CA EITC eligibility to every employee and that this notification must be made in writing, either in person or via first class mail within a week before or after the employer provides an annual wage summary (Form W-2’s or Forms 1099). A posting in the office will be considered insufficient. Sample language for this notification form can be obtained in Section 19854 of the California Revenue and Taxation Code.

Post Injury/Illness Summary Beginning February 1st
|
If you have more than 10 full time employees, you will need to complete, sign, and post
OSHA's Form 300A beginning February 1, 2018. Form 300A summarizes job-related injuries and illnesses logged during 2017. Work-related injuries and illness must be recorded on OSHA’s Form 300 if they result in death, loss of consciousness, days away from work, restricted work activity or job transfer, or medical treatment beyond first aid.
Each year, between Feb. 1 and April 30, the Form 300A must be displayed in a common area where notices to employees are usually posted. Businesses with 10 or fewer employees are exempt from OSHA recordkeeping and posting requirements.

Test Empowerment with this Question

You may tell yourself that your employees are empowered, but here is one test: Do they make mistakes? Not minor mistakes, spilling coffee all over the copier, but mistakes that come from taking chances, like trying to sell a product in a new market. If they never fail, they may not feel safe taking any risks. Examine your own reaction to mistakes and failures to be sure you’re not telling your people not to trust their judgement.

Order your 2018 Labor Law Posters!

With the new year upon us, as a business, one of the main things to remember is that compliance is key. Many regulations have been updated or introduced for California in 2018. Your 2017 posters will now be considered outdated and you will not be in compliance.
All California businesses must display up-to-date labor and safety notices where all employees can see them to be in compliance with federal and state laws.
Therefore, the 2017 all-in-one poster no longer meets the federal and state 2018 requirements. Updated posters include the following important revisions:
- CA Minimum Wage Notice
- CA Transgender Rights
Companies will also have to update their Industrial Welfare Commission Wage Order (#1 Manufacturing or #4 Administrative) given the new state minimum wage increases.
Some companies may also be required to display additional notices depending on their operation, such as forklift safety, fire extinguisher use, safe lifting, and blood borne pathogens.
