Many of us were heartened by the high school youth who walked out of school on Wednesday to demand gun control after another shocking school shooting. We were inspired by their passion and maturity. Hello Everyone! Youth Group would like your help! On March 23, First Unitarian Society of Westchester will be hosting a Midnight Run and we'd like to support them! Midnight Run is a volunteer organization dedicated to finding common ground between the housed and the homeless. In over 1,000 relief missions per year, Midnight Run volunteers from churches, synagogues, schools, and other civic groups distribute food, clothing, blankets, and personal care items to the homeless poor on the streets of New York City. PrideWorks Conference
2018
Members from all five UU congregations in Westchester participated in this year's PrideWorks Conference at Pace University Pleasantville, including Tony Arrien and John Cavallero from CUUC. PrideWorks is an annual county-wide conference for about 500 LGBTQ+ youth and allies, and UUs have been an important part of the conference throughout its almost two decades of existence since the first event, when it was called "Healing the Hurt." Share the Plate for March: Furniture Sharehouse
We share half our non-pledge collection this month with Furniture Sharehouse, which provides free furniture to economically disadvantaged individuals and families in Westchester. Their clients include those moving out of homeless shelters into permanent housing; battered women and children escaping domestic violence; working families struggling to stay above the poverty line; young adults aging out of foster care; and victims of fires or other natural disasters.
