Changes to the MA State Building Code
8th to 9th Edition
OVERVIEW:
The 8th Edition of MSBC utilizes the 2009 IBC and IEBC as well as ASCE-7 '05. The 9th Edition utilizes 2015 IBC and IEBC and ASCE-7 2010. Changes in the IBC Codes, including Massachusetts Amendments, will be discussed. Changes in the ASCE-7 Code, including wind and seismic provisions, will also be covered.
INTRODUCTION BY MASSACHUSETTS CHIEF OF INSPECTIONS:
Mr. Robert Anderson, Chief of Inspections, MA State Dept. of Public Safety & Inspections, will provide a brief introduction to the to the 9th Edition State Building Code, as well as tips for how to navigate the Code page of the State's website.

Mr. Woodworth has over 30 years of experience in architecture, code enforcement, and code consulting in a broad range of project sectors. He is a licensed architect in the state of MA and a faculty member at the Boston Architectural College. For over 10 years, Vernon chaired the BSA Codes Committee, seeking to harmonize the MA State Building Code with the national model codes.

Michael has more than three decades of experience as a practicing structural engineer. A code expert and seasoned presenter, Mike is Chair of the NCSEA Existing Buildings Code Committee and a member of the Massachusetts Structural Advisory Committee. He has served as President and Director of SEAMASS and the Boston Association of Structural Engineers, and currently serves as Co-Chair of the SEAMASS Structural Engineering Emergency Response Committee, and is the 2017-18 Chair of the Northeast Coalition of Structural Engineers. Mike is Founder and Principal of Fillion Group, Inc. Structural Engineering.
Marc Rivard, PE, SE

Marc is a licensed Structural and Professional Engineer in CA, MA and NH, and earned his BS in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Prior to joining WoodWorks, he was a Senior Structural Engineer in California. involved primarily with seismic design and analysis of new and existing buildings. Marc has experience providing structural calculations, plans, specifications, construction administration and structural plan review services for a wide variety of projects including public schools, libraries, churches, state park facilities, multi-family and single family custom homes, universities, commercial and retail buildings, NASA operational facilities, and military housing and operational facilities. Marc is a Registered Disaster Service Worker for the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services, and a member of the SEAMASS Board of Directors.
