Revolutionary Fun

On Wednesday, All Saints Hall was transformed into a historical gaming paradise. Our fifth grade students set up original board games that they created, and shared their work with parents, staff, and students from other grades. Each of the students started with only the theme of the American Revolutionary War and used their own ideas and inspiration to create a finished playable game. They needed to decide what kind of game it would be: trivia, strategy, puzzle, or a combination; what the rules would be, and how to make sure they made sense; and, of course, what it would be called! In addition to all of the planning, our students crafted the boards and pieces themselves. What was most interesting were the special touches each student added to their game, from Angelina re-purposing and decorating a tile box from her mother's home-improvement project to hold her game, to Bailey's adorable hand-crafted and painted miniatures, Cecelia's multi-part game design, Jason striking the perfect balance of easy-to-learn and fun-and-engaging, and Avery's clean and smart designs, from cards to board, just to name a few examples. This event was a great way to mix tradition with curriculum, and each year, our younger students get to come and play and learn and see what they will get to do in years to come. Our older students get to show off their work and teach their juniors. It's a great experience and everyone comes away having learned (or remembered) something about the Revolutionary War. One thing is for sure: no one wants to throw these games into Boston Harbor!

Lockdown Drill

Today we had our Lockdown Drill. Teachers announced the drill to the students 10-15 minutes before to give the children the opportunity to ask questions and share any feelings they may have. We had security and safety professionals on campus observing the drill today. The drill went well.

Easter Baskets for Collington Square

It is a St. John’s Parish Day School tradition to join efforts with St. John’s Episcopal Church to support those families in need residing in Baltimore’s Collington Square Community at Easter. Together we provide Easter Baskets of the less traditional kind filled with food and basic necessities, rather than candy and toys.

Directly outside your child’s classroom will be a white basket labeled with a desired item for each collection effort. Simply drop this item in the basket any time between Friday, March 1st and Friday, March 23rd and church volunteers will deliver the baskets to the families on Palm Sunday, March 25th.
Vote Today!

St. John's Parish Day School has been nominated for "Best Preschool" and "Best Independent School" by the Baltimore's Child Reader's Choice Awards. Please note: There is an education section on the "Step 2 page" right at the beginning, but our nominations are on the Education Page on "Step 5". You do not have to vote for every item to be able to move on to the next. Thank you for your support! The last day to vote is 11:59 PM, Sunday, April 1st.

2018 SJPDS Variety Show
Friday, May 11th
6:30 PM

We are excited to begin planning the 2018 SJPDS Variety Show! Students look forward to sharing their talents with their friends, families, and teachers in a fun and supportive environment.

Acts are limited to 3 minutes each, and group acts are encouraged. In the past, students have performed comedy, dance, signing, spoken word, karate, gymnastics, magic, and musical acts, among others.

Auditions will be held March 26th and 28th from 3:30 PM-6:30 PM, and a Sign Up Genius will be sent out to sign up for time slots shortly. While we hold 'auditions', all students who wish to perform will be included in the show. The auditions allow us a chance to give some guidance to the performers and also to assist us in planning out the show. Acts do not need to be fully polished for the auditions (i.e. song lyrics don't have to be memorized, routines don't need to be finalized, etc.).

If your child is interested in participating in the Variety Show, please complete and submit the form below to your child's classroom teacher by Monday, March 19th . Please e-mail any questions to  Anne Stagnl
