TWO BUSINESS PROFESSORS NAMED FULBRIGHT CORE SCHOLARS
Two profs receive Fulbright awards
Tim Heath and Anol Bhattacherjee were named Fulbright Core Scholars last month, bringing the number of current Muma College of Business faculty members recognized by the prestigious program to seven. Heath, a marketing professor, will travel to Vienna, Austria, next year and Bhattacherjee, with the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department, is bound for India. USF is among the top producers of Fulbright scholars in the nation, says the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. To read more, click here. FINTECH BUSINESS PLAN COMPETITION SCHEDULED FOR APRIL

As the Fintech Business Plan Competition draws near, the USF Center for Entrepreneurship, which sponsors the annual event, takes a look back at what past winners are doing these days. It's no surprise they all are successful entrepreneurs with thriving businesses and corporations sprinkled all around the Tampa Bay area. This year's competition, which marks the 10th anniversary of the event, takes place on April 28. To read more click here.
USF ALUMNI ZIMMERMAN AND FINKELSTEIN TO SPEAK IN ATRIUM

Advertising guru Jordan Zimmerman and Broward County Public Defender Howard Finkelstein will talk about overcoming adversity to achieve success at 4:30 p.m., March 21, in the Muma College of Business atrium. Zimmerman, the founder and chairman of Zimmerman Advertising, is a graduate of the now named USF Zimmerman School of Advertising and Mass Communications. Finkelstein will talk about his triumphs over an addiction to cocaine to become the elected public defender of the 17th Judicial Circuit. To register, click here.
MARKETING STUDENTS TWEAK HABITAT FOR HUMANITY PROTOCOLS

Marketing and supply-chain management students took eight months to pore over the books of Habitat for Humanity and in the end came up with a path for the nonprofit to change its procurement procedures. The students suggested ways the charity could build more homes for the needy for the same money. The study recommended a hybrid purchasing method that may be implemented nationwide. KFORCE'S DAVID DUNKEL NEXT UP AT CONVERSATION WITH A CEO
David Dunkel
David Dunkel, CEO of Kforce, is the next guest at the Muma College of Business's Conversation with a CEO, scheduled for April 4. Dunkel guided his business from a face-to-face, one-on-one staffing agency to one that now embraces the Internet. Kforce was among the first such agencies to use cyberspace in the 1990s and Dunkel will detail how he helped change the industry's culture. To read more, click here. To register, click here.
SPORT AND ENTERTAINMENT ANALYTICS CONFERENCE NEARING

Strategies revealing how to get sport and entertainment fans into seats and engaged are the focus of the fourth annual University of South Florida Sport & Entertainment Analytics Conference scheduled for March 28-29 on the Tampa campus. The event features nearly a dozen experts giving talks and participating in panel discussions on the impact analytics has on their respective bottom lines. ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: ANDREA SOTO RISING AT RAYMOND JAMES

Andrea Soto is a perfect example of how the Muma College of Business engages the local business community. Within a year of graduation, Soto has landed a job as a marketing strategy analyst with Raymond James. She credits the connections between the college's mentorship/internship programs and the biz community. SUPPLY-CHAIN STUDENTS INVITED TO ELITE CASE COMPETITION 
USF Invited to compete
Undergrads studying supply-chain management have been invited to compete against seven other teams from across the nation at UNF in Jacksonville. The 11th annual Logistics and Supply Chain Management Case Competition is hosted by the Intermodal Association of North America and begins on April 5. To read more, click here.
USF BETA ALPHA PSI CHAPTER WINS AT REGIONAL COMPETITION

Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy students returned from a recent regional competition as winners of two prestigious awards. The USF chapter of the honors organization Beta Alpha Psi took first place in the "Branding Your Chapter" competition and second place in "Launching into the Next Century" competition in Birmingham, Alabama. MUMA STUDENTS PLACE IN INTERCOLLEGIATE CASE COMPETITION

A team of marketing students spent a recent weekend studying expansion plans at the Yuengling Brewery just south of the Tampa campus. Students from four Florida universities worked around the clock to prepare presentations for Yuengling brewery executives, who said they may consider implementation of some of the suggestions from all four teams. ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: ALEX KEELER UNTANGLES FRAUD SCHEMES

Alex Keeler puts a spotlight on the criminal element. As an investigator with Deutsche Bank in Jacksonville, Keeler makes good use of the education he received in the anti-money laundering concentration of his MBA at USF. He says the extended conversations he had with his professors "pushed my knowledge to the next level," and that's fighting financial crime. To read more, click here.
FLORIDA SBDC AT USF HOSTS INTERNATIONAL TRADE MASTER SERIES
Int'l Trade Master Series
Small business owners and managers will get an in-depth look at the intricacies of international trade with some leading global experts at a series that begins on April 2. The accredited courses, held at the Florida Small Business Development Center at USF in the Port Tampa Bay building in downtown Tampa, are designed to prepare attendees to take the Certified Global Business Professional exam. ACCOUNTING JUNIOR HONORED AS STUDENT ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

Congratulations to our own Evelyne Viens, a USF soccer star and student in the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy. Evelyne, an All-American, certainly has the stats to prove her worth on the field, helping the team to an AAC tournament championship last year. She is to be honored, along with USF football's Quinton Flowers, at the Tampa Bay Hall of Fame banquet to be held at the Pepin Hospitality Centre on March 21. To read more, click here.

FACULTY/STAFF NOTES 
  • Dipayan Biswas, a professor in the Marketing Department, recently received a "Best Paper Award" at the American Marketing Association's Winter Academic Conference, a premier conference for those in the marketing industry. The paper, titled "Effects of Retail Ambient Music Volume Levels on Food Purchases: Implications for Retail Atmospheric Strategies and Consumer Wellbeing," was co-authored by Kaisa Lunda of Linnaeus University and Courtney R. Szocs of Portland State University.
  • Tim Heath, a marketing professor, was awarded a Fulbright Core Scholarship last month, allowing him to travel to Vienna, Austria, next year.
  • Anol Bhattacherjee, a professor in the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department, received a Fulbright Core Scholarship that will send him to India for four months in 2019. 
  • Alan Hevner, Distinguished University Professor with the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department, has been selected as the 2018 Distinguished Computer Science Alumni from Purdue University's College of Science. He will head to Purdue in April to take part in a seminar and accept the award.
  • Lisa Gaynor, an associate professor in the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy, has conducted impactful research that has been cited by the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board in a recent auditing reporting standard, which is a principle on which auditing procedures are performed and judged. The citation was in "The Auditor's Report on an Audit of Financial Statements When the Auditor Expresses an Unqualified Opinion and Related Amendments to PCAOB Standards."

  • Elizabeth Menendez ('84, Finance) has been appointed treasurer of the executive board for the 2018 Florida Certified Commercial Investment Member Chapter of the West Coast District. Menendez works for Coldwell Banker residential real estate in Tampa.
  • Cassandra Sanchez ('14, Finance, Accounting) is now an associate manager with the Fund Team at LeverPoint Management. Previously, she was a senior accountant at the same corporation. Sanchez is a former 25 Under 25 honoree.
  • Jessica Deleanides ('15, MBA) has been promoted to customer relations management Consultant II at Tribridge, a tech-services firm. She previously was a Consultant I at the same company.
  • Mia Topic ('15, Marketing) is now a document management analyst with Pacific Architects and Engineers. She previously was a contract client services coordinator with CBRE in Washington, D.C.
  • Bodi Karsono ('16, MBA) is now content manager with TBWA/Chiat/Day, an advertising agency based in New York. Previously, he was the social media marketing manager with the same company.
  • Isabella Duarte ('17, MS Finance) is now assistant vice president of risk modeling and analytics at Citi in New York. She previously was a senior analyst of model risk management with Raymond James.
  • David Silverstone ('17, Marketing) is taking a job as an account executive with IMB Learfield ticket solutions at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
  • Greg Ross-Munro ('08, MS Entrepreneurship) was named to the Florida High Tech Corridor's 2018 Faces of Technology. Ross-Munro is the CEO of Tampa's Sourcetoad, a software company.

* April 5-6 Selling with the Bulls, an event that combines employer networking with multiple go-to-market, sales and marketing student competitions. The competition is open to undergrads from any college and takes place in the Muma College of Business over the two days. for more information, click here.
* April 19, 2 p.m., the Applied Security Analysis class will deliver its final presentations to a panel made up of Tampa Bay area investors and financial planners. The presentations, which are pitches to invest real money, are to be held in BSN 221. A reception will immediately follow.
