NATIONAL HEALTH OBSERVANCES
World TB Day is Monday, March 26
Did you know that TB infects about a quarter of the world's population and has surpassed HIV/AIDS as the leading cause of death by an infectious disease? The disease claims more than 4,500 lives a day, and the emergence of multi-drug-resistant TB poses a major health threat.
World TB Day offers an opportunity to raise public awareness about devastating health, social and economic consequences of TB and to step up the effort to end the global epidemic. The theme of this year's World TB Day is Wanted: Leaders for a TB-free world, emphasizing the importance of involvement by political leaders, community leaders, health care workers, and more.
