Thursday, January 11 | 4:30 p.m. | Oak Grove Middle School

A public open house will be held Jan. 11 in Bloomington on state and federal plans to rebuild the Interstate 35W bridge over the Minnesota River linking Bloomington and Burnsville.

The open house, which will focus on the project's environmental assessment, will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Oak Grove Middle School, 1300 W. 106th St. Staffers and engineers from the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) will be on hand to answer questions, and members of the public may leave comments on the project for the public record.

MnDOT is planning to reconstruct the bridge and parts of I-35W starting in 2018. The project will rebuild the freeway stretch from Cliff Road in Burnsville to 106th Street in Bloomington, raise the road out of the flood plain, add another northbound lane and install a pedestrian and bike trail over the river. Work is expected to be completed in fall 2020.

Education Village begins construction at Winona State University
Construction is underway on Education Village, a state-of-the-art mini-campus for teacher education at Winona State University in Winona, Minnesota. The $25.2 million project repurposes three former school buildings, creating a new section of campus and home of the College of Education.

Designed by LEO A DALY, Education Village carves a cohesive identity out of three school buildings from different eras, retrofitting them with cutting-edge learning spaces while retaining their historic integrity. The 100,000 square-foot project will allow future teachers to train in the internationally recognized Winona Model, which focuses on early clinical experiences in real-world situations.

Ballard Spahr and Lindquist & Vennum Have Merged
Ballard Spahr and Lindquist & Vennum have completed their merger, Ballard Spahr Chair Mark Stewart announced today. The combined firm-which retains the name Ballard Spahr-has more than 650 lawyers in 15 offices across the United States. The merger strengthens client offerings at Ballard Spahr-particularly in the area of private equity and strategic M&A transactions-and provides the practice depth and expanded industry capabilities of an Am Law 100 firm to clients of Lindquist & Vennum.
It also extends Ballard Spahr's footprint in the Midwest, giving the firm offices in Minneapolis and Sioux Falls, SD, and expanding its office in Denver. With more than 110 lawyers, the Minneapolis office is Ballard Spahr's largest outside of Philadelphia.

"We have looked for a combination that would strengthen our ability to meet the significant increase in demand we see on the transactional side. This merger brings more than 60 M&A and private equity deal lawyers into our corporate department, as well as others whose skills align with the strengths of the firm across practice areas," Mr. Stewart said.
