Lent Evening Prayer Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

 Greetings!
The visual prayer included here is Christ's Agony at Gethsemane , a sculpture from a Trappist monastery, Kentucky. From the Vanderbilt Digital Library
Troubled Heart
"God promises Jeremiah that a “new covenant” will be made in the future: a covenant that will allow all the people to know God by heart. The church sees this promise fulfilled in Christ, who draws all people to himself when he is lifted up on the cross. Our baptismal covenant draws us to God’s heart through Christ and draws God’s light and truth into our hearts. We see God’s heart most clearly in the way Jesus shares human suffering, in an agony both the John and Hebrews readings describe."

See you Sunday.
+ Pastor Michael
Sharing Faith at Home
Morning Prayer:   God of suffering and glory, in Jesus Christ you reveal the way of life through the path of obedience. Inscribe your law in our hearts, that in life we may not stray from you, but may be your people.  Amen.
Evening Prayer:   God of compassion, you know our faults and yet you promised to forgive. Keep us in your presence and give us your wisdom. Open our hearts to gladness, call dry bones to dance, and restore to us the joy of your salvation. Amen.
Prayer with Children: Dear God, you have promised to write your love and law on our hearts. That means you are with me, always, not far off, but with me all the time! Thank you Jesus! Amen.
In our prayers:   Donny, Belita, Tom, Velda, Paul, Ina, Kendra, Patrick, Eric, Nikki, Howard, Jennifer, Linda, Lili, Gloria, Monroe, John and Sharon, Jinny, Donna, Don, Richard, Jody, Ashley, Bob and Nancy, Sue, Debbie, Dan, Steve, and Ione. W e also pray for our bishops, Elizabeth and Wayne.

This Week's Commemorations
Joseph, Guardian of Jesus, Monday, March 19, 2018. Though the Bible tells us little about the husband of Jesus' mother Mary, we know that he was a carpenter or builder by trade. He is also shown as being devoted both to God and to Mary and Jesus. It is assumed that he died before Jesus became an adult.

Thomas Cranmer, Bishop of Canterbury, martyr, died 1556, Wednesday, March 21, 2018. Cranmer's lasting achievement is contributing to and overseeing the creation of the Book of Common Prayer, which remains (in revised form) the worship book of the Anglican Communion. He was burned at the stake under Queen Mary for his support of the Protestant Reformation.

Jonathan Edwards, teacher, missionary, died 1758, Thursday, March 22, 2018. A Puritan minister in Connecticut, Edwards is remembered as being a great preacher. Though his most famous sermon talks at length about hell, he was more concerned with God's love. He served both as missionary to the Housatonic people in Massachusetts, and as president of the future Princeton University.

Oscar Arnulfo Romero, Bishop of El Salvador, martyr, died 1980, Saturday, March 24, 2018. Romero was deeply concerned with injustices evident toward the poor and powerless in El Salvador, and worked forthrightly against political repression. He was assassinated while presiding at the eucharist in a chapel near the cathedral in San Salvador.

“Parent’s Night Out!”FOR A GOOD CAUSE
Saturday: April 21 from 4:00-8:00pm
@Immanuel Lutheran Church (1500 W. Elmdale Ave.)
Ages: 2 1/2 years-5th grade

Suggested Donation:
$15 for one child, $20 for two children, $25 for more than two children.

Enjoy a night out for a good cause! While parents/guardians have a night out, children will be in a safe environment doing fun activities led by Pastor Emily Heitzman, the church youth group, and several other adult church members.

Children should bring a sack dinner to eat during the evening.

All proceeds will help send several of our youth group high schoolers to travel to Houston, Texas this June for the triennial ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church of America) Youth Gathering. This is a powerful and life-changing event, where our youth will gather with 30,000+ other Lutheran youth for worship, justice, and service work in and around Houston. As we have seen this fall, Hurricane Harvey has devastated Houston and its surrounding areas. Thus, not only will your financial contribution help our youth get to the youth gathering, but it will also help Houston get back on its feet post-Harvey. Imagine how much of an impact 30,000+ people can make in doing service projects, Hurricane relief work, and by putting money into Houston’s economy: hotels, transportation, food, hired workers for the event, etc.?!

Facilities Feedback
Ebenezer's facilities are busier than ever, which is both a gift and a challenge! To help us understand areas where cleaning and repair could be improved, you are invited to use this form to provide feedback to Jesse, our sexton. This is a more reliable method than verbal reports to staff or volunteers on Sundays, when our focus in on worship. Please let us know how we can continue to make Ebenezer a place of hospitality for all! The link is also available at any time at the Ebenezer Facilities webpage.
