House Committee Considers Opioid CME Mandate
Under a bill considered in the House Health and Human Services Reform Committee on March 13, all physicians with authority to prescribe would be required to take two hours of continuing medical education, per license renewal cycle, on best practices in prescribing opioids and controlled substances. Dayton Addresses MinnesotaCare Buy-in, Gun Violence in Speech
In his final State of the State address on March 14, Gov. Mark Dayton touched upon a couple of health care issues, specifically his desire to enact the MinnesotaCare buy-in program that would allow all Minnesotans to pay for the state-run insurance program. Read more here.

Health Department Seeking HIE Task Force Members
The Minnesota Department of Health is looking for applicants for the Minnesota e-Health Task Force, which is tasked with helping move Minnesota in the direction of a "connected networks" approach. Read more here.

Otto Bremer Trust supports MMAF's Physician Volunteerism Program
The Otto Bremer Trust recently announced that the MMA Foundation's Physician Volunteerism Program will receive a grant of $30,000 to continue to promote and support physician volunteerism in Minnesota. Read more here.

Save the Date: LGBTQ Health Forum Scheduled
Following its successful health equity forum in January, the MMA will host a forum on LGBTQ health. It will be an opportunity to do the following: raise awareness of the unique health needs of the LGBTQ community; raise awareness of the health disparities faced by the community and the root causes of those disparities; and identify strategies for creating a welcoming, supportive and quality clinical environment for the community. The forum will take place on May 15 at the University of Minnesota Campus Club. Reception will be from 5 to 6 p.m. followed by the two-hour program.
