FEATURED ANNOUNCEMENT: HSD Posts Impressive 2017 Graduation Rates
HSD is proud to announce our 2017 four-year cohort graduation rate of 84.1 percent - an increase of 2.42 percentage points over last year, and 7.45 percentage points higher than the state average. We are especially proud of Century High School's unprecedented 91.61 percent graduation rate, and of Hilhi's first-ever cresting of the 80 percent mark at 82.2 percent. In fact, all of our comprehensive high schools' graduation rates were over 80 percent - another first. Effective use of data, systems, and targeted student supports are some of the key reasons why more students are graduating on time than ever before. Learn more here. Congratulations and way to go, class of 2017! Our high school teachers and staff, principals, K-12 system and our community have much to celebrate!

Superintendent Video Message: Student Health and Wellness
UPCOMING
EVENTS

As first semester draws to a close, Superintendent Scott takes a few moments to remind students and parents of the importance of students' self-care and wellness. In the coming weeks, all middle and high school students will be shown a short video* featuring HSD counselors that talks more in-depth about this topic and ways students can get help and support if they need it. The video is posted to our Student Health and Wellness page and all parents are encouraged to view it to learn more about our culture of care.
*Some schools may choose to cover the topic with students using different materials.

Reminder: HSF Innovative Education Grant Abstracts Due Feb. 6
The Hillsboro Schools Foundation is currently accepting abstracts for its 2018-19 Innovative Education Grants. This year, HSF staff put together a clever video to describe what they're looking for and how to apply for the grants, and developed an online form for the submission of abstracts, which should greatly streamline the application process. The deadline for submitting abstracts is Tuesday, Feb. 6; click here for the scoring rubric.

Building Relationships: Student Feedback
We are at the halfway point of the school year, which is a great time to hear from your students about what is and is not working in their learning environment. If structured in a way to gather constructive feedback, this opportunity empowers students to provide input in a manner that fosters ownership and pride. Students will notice that their teacher(s) listened, building that reciprocal learning relationship between students and teachers, and supporting a sense of community in the classroom. Read more in the January edition of OSP Connected.

Citizens' Bond Oversight Committee
Applications are currently being sought for our Citizens' Bond Oversight Committee. This will be an advisory committee to the Board that will meet in open session at least quarterly to review the bond program's progress, spending and schedules; they will provide written reports for the Board after each meeting. The committee will hold its first meeting no later than April 6, 2018, and will be dissolved on Jan. 1, 2022, or upon issuance of a final report after all bond projects have been completed. Additional information and application forms can be found here; application deadline is Friday, Feb. 16.

School-Based Health Center Hosts Immunization Clinic
Each year, in advance of Immunization Exclusion Day (Wednesday, Feb. 21), our School-Based Health Center at Century High School, 1998 SE Century Blvd., holds an immunization clinic to help students get the immunizations they need to remain in school. Though immunizations can be administered at any time, the clinic provides a full day where immunizations are the focus. This year's clinic will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 14, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Students must bring any known immunization records and/or the letter they receive from their school stating which immunizations they need. Appointments are recommended; please call 503-597-4580 for scheduling.
