Does your child have a hearing loss?  Do you have questions about communication options, language development, amplification, social-emotional development and school programs? All of your questions can be answered in one place at a week-long program by the Institute for Parents of Preschool Children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in June.   Click Here to learn more about the program.

Lovin' Literacy - Building Comprehension
Reading comprehension can be a challenge for students with a hearing loss due to vocabulary and language delays.  One way parents can work on reading comprehension at home is by asking questions after reading with their child:
  • Who are the characters in the story?
  • What is the setting?
  • What was the problem?  How did they solve the problem?
  • What happened at the beginning/middle/end?
  • Did you like the story?  Why or why not?

Social Work Corner
Are you looking for a way to teach your child how to take turns, reinforce bedtime routines, or prepare for new experiences, such as taking the bus? Perhaps a social story will help!

What is a social story? Social stories are brief stories that can be used to teach children social skills, clear behavior expectations, reinforce routines, and prepare for new experiences. We are creating videos to lead parents through the process of making a social story to fit their needs. Click Here to learn how to use social stories to teach your child new skills and expectations.
