LUM Follies is a lighthearted evening of fine dining, entertainment, fun & good company, filled with joyful surprises. One hundred percent of the proceeds from this event go to the LUM Good Samaritan Fund , an emergency financial assistance program that supports local families.

LUM Income Tax Assistance in Full Swing
Impressive Stats So Far
In just six weeks, the LUM Tax Assistance Program has had a tremendous positive impact on our community. Some interesting statistics so far are as follows:

  • Total Income Tax Returns Filed – 328
  • Total Earned Income Credit – $215,332
  • Average Adjusted Gross Income – $21,394
  • Total Refund Amount – $616,838

LUM would not be able to offer this service without the skilled, trained volunteers who
make this important LUM program such a success each year. At LUM, taxpayers get one-on-one help from IRS-certified volunteers who prepare their taxes at no charge. The 2018 LUM Tax Assistance Program is led by Ben Murphy.
Winter Warming Station - All Are Welcome!
Life Saving Service for the Homeless
No one in our community should have to spend the night outdoors in the harsh weather — and the LUM Winter Warming Station allows individuals, including those who are not eligible to stay at the LUM Emergency Shelter , to be in our safe, secure indoor warm space. The LUM Winter Warming Station is located in the LUM Office building (420 N 4th Street, Lafayette) and is open from midnight to 7 a.m. from November 15 through April 15. Since November 2017, it has been utilized by 147 individuals needing a place to “warm up.”
Immigration Clinic Citizenship Classes - April
Teachers Meet to Plan Spring Curriculum
The  LUM Immigration Clinic  in collaboration with Lafayette Adult Resource Academy will offer free Citizenship Classes  for persons interested in learning more about US history and government. Spring session classes begin on April 10, and are held twice a week until May 10. LUM Citizenship Classes are coordinated by Karen Countryman with assistance from Scott Frankenberger.

Karen & Scott met with the volunteer teachers for the LUM  Citizenship Classes  this week to prepare the curriculum. The James F. Ackerman Center for Democratic Citizenship at Purdue University donated textbooks, maps & teacher's manual and also assists with developing the framework for the lesson plans. This program could not be offered without these talented volunteer teachers. Volunteers are needed to teach, bring refreshments and provide child care. Spanish speaking volunteers are especially needed.

LUM Summer Program Needs Teachers
Full-time | Summer (May 29-Aug 3) | Paid
The LUM 5th Quarter Summer Learning Program is seeking applications for two Teachers. The positions are full-time, paid ($15 per hour). Teachers are needed from May 29 - August 3, Monday - Friday from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Bachelor's degree in Education is required, and duties include supervising and teaching 40 children, pre-Kindergarten through 6th Grade.

Generation Found - FREE Film Screening

Grace Recovery at Grace United Methodist is sponsoring a free screening of GENERATION FOUND , a powerful story about one community coming together to ignite a youth addiction recovery revolution in their hometown; and how church leaders came together to build the world’s largest peer-driven youth and family recovery community. Details are as follows:
  • THIS Saturday, March 17 (St. Patrick's Day)
  • Doors open 6 p.m.; Welcome 6:20 p.m.; Film 6:30 p.m.; Discussion 8 p.m.

  • Free & open to the public

Grace Recovery has formed the TAFI (Transforming Adolescents & Families in Indiana) alternative peer group for teens with alcohol and other drug issues.  This group will assist local teens who struggle with substance use disorder in finding a path to recovery by recreating and strengthening healthy relationships with both recovery-minded peers and their own family members.
