pareContinuing to Advance Mental Health in the Workplace

Members of The Action Group's Mental Health Learning Network met last week to kick off 2018 initiatives to continue advancing mental health in the workplace.

The group expressed interest in having more data to understand network and payment disparities. In response, we are sharing a December 2017 report that's receiving significant attention from mental health advocates: " Addiction and mental health vs. physical health: Analyzing disparities in network use and provider reimbursement rates." The report was commissioned by the Mental Health Treatment and Research Institute LLC, a not-for-profit subsidiary of The Bowman Family Foundation and was produced by Milliman. This three-year research documents differences in both network use and reimbursement rates, including tables with state-by-state data.

In addition, the most comprehensive study on antidepressants has recently been published, showing only modest effects. Read more here.

Action Group members also have access to "Working Well in Minnesota: Insights and Actions to Help Minnesota Employers Advance Mental Health in the Workplace," the result of the 2017 work of the Mental Health Learning Network. To view, simply log into the Member Center from the homepage and go to Member Resources.

"The best companies excel simultaneously on the three dimensions of people, business and finance. But from a philosophical standpoint, the purpose is not financial. It's about contributing to the common good and contributing to the development of the individuals who work at the company and are touched by the company. And it's about developing positive relationships. It's a human purpose."

the words prediabetes on a tablet with syringe
Many are surprised to learn that one in three American adults has prediabetes and ninety percent of them don't know it.

To contribute to stopping or delaying the onset of type 2 diabetes for those at increased risk, The Action Group is working with the Minnesota Department of Health to raise awareness about the alarming rate of prediabetes, encourage employers to educate employees about preventing and treating diabetes, and offer the National Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) as a covered benefit.

Early returns on the DPP show it's working, especially for those with high participation rates. Findings show the program reduced the progression to diabetes by 58 percent, and by 71 percent for those 65 and older.

Use the free employee education tools below, and talk to your health plan about making diabetes prevention a priority at your organization!
