From the Pastor

Happy New Year!

I hope everybody is off to a great start in 2018. We are continuing our worship series on Hard Questions of Faith.  The New Year is always an excellent time to invite friends to worship and our current series is designed with those who might be curious about the Christian faith in mind.  Please consider inviting a family member, friend, co-worker or fellow student to join you for worship.  You can also invite them to find sermons on our website.

Most of you have probably heard that Beth Morris has accepted a position at the Wesley Foundation at Middle Tennessee State University and has resigned as our youth director.  We will miss her in that capacity, but I know she will do a great job in her new position.    We are all grateful for Beth's many contributions to St. Mark's in recent years and will have a reception for her between services this Sunday, January 21st.

Pray for her and Alan and come wish her well this Sunday.  We would like to present her with cards and notes from the congregation.    Please send your cards or notes to the church office by Friday, January 19th  so that we can present them to her on the 21st.

Thank you for all you do to make St. Mark's one of the great churches in our community!

A Message from Buddy Howell...

Happy New Year!

I'm expecting 2018 to be a great year for our church, but we'll be starting off with some sad news.  Beth Morris, our Director of Youth and Recreation, recently accepted a position with the Wesley Foundation, which means she will be leaving her employment with St. Mark's.

Beth has been with us about 8 years.  She has led our youth on numerous mission trips, and she's made countless other opportunities available for fun, fellowship and Christian service.  We will most definitely miss Beth.

On a positive note, I'm excited for Beth's future.  Working with the Wesley Foundation keeps it all in the family, and her new job will be an appropriate progression of the work she has been doing for St. Mark's.  I'm sure you will join me in wishing Beth much success in her new role.

Beth's last Sunday as our Youth Director will be Sunday, January 21.  We'll be planning an appreciation event around that time so we can give Beth a proper St. Mark's send-off.  In the meantime, let's all send a great big THANK YOU! to Beth for her outstanding service to St. Mark's.

In Other News...

Chili Cook Off - Our sixth annual chili cook off is this Sunday! If you would like to enter your award winning chili let Beth know at beth@stmarkstn.org. We hope everyone will come and taste chili with us. A tasting ticket is $5 and then you can truly put your money where your mouth is-you will make a donation to the chili that you think is the best. We will start serving at 11:00 and will continue to serve after the 11:00 service. We will also have hotdogs with chips and homemade desserts for sale. This is a fundraiser for youth mission trips.

Red Bird Christmas Thank YouOn behalf of the Missions Team, we would like to say thank you to everyone who adopted the Red Bird kids for Christmas.  In addition, a special thank you to our knitters, the Quilting Bees, and the Brave Women of Faith Circle who contributed quilts, caps, mittens, stockings, etc. and to those who came to our wrapping parties at the warehouse!

Thanks and Appreciation for all the prayers, food, cards, and well wishes during my recent medical situation. It's apparent the power of prayer works, as I feel the prayers were responsible for the recovery I have enjoyed.  A special thanks to Drs. Clardy and Goff for their many visits and uplifting pastoral care.  With gratitude, Juanita Greer.

Golf Tournament - Our spring golf tournament will be held at Old For Golf Course on April 14.
