A newsletter of the Atlanta Knitting Guild: Bringing Atlanta's knitters together

Next meeting - February 1st - 7:30 p.m.

President's message
Jill Vogin

Hi Friends,
I just came back from New York City where I had the privilege of attending Vogue Knitting Live.  Having been a Stitches veteran going back many years, it was an exciting change of pace and the event did not disappoint.

We have a program coming up later in the spring to talk about what it is like to attend these events.  The best part is that Stitches South is returning to Atlanta in April of 2019.  So everyone will have the opportunity to experience this kind of event without breaking the bank.

Meanwhile, both our Superstar and Mini-workshop chairs are hard at work planning great event this winter/spring.

Our new website is up (check it out, same web address) and we will continue to load it with content.  Thanks to Claire Kooy for making this critical transition for us.

The raffle scheduled for February is being postponed until March due to our chairperson's scheduled surgery. We have so much wonderful yarn, there will be something for everyone to covet!
Looking forward to seeing all of you on Thursday, February 1st.

Yours in knitting,
Jill

Program
Annie Hall

Our speaker for February is the talented spinning teacher Annie Hall. Annie will demonstrate how fiber becomes yarn. There is a reason why fairy tales talk of spinning, as it is magical. Even if you aren't a spinner and don't inspire to be one, you will learn about the properties of yarn and best uses. And Annie will bring lots of handspun eye candy!

Website - Update
Claire Murata Kooy

WOO HOO ! - please go and have a look at the new website  https://www.atlantaknittingguild.org/ It looks wonderful

Women's Shelter

Please bring in toiletries to the February meeting - these will be much appreciated.

KROGER

Please register  your  Kroger rewards card and list AKG as the community rewards recipient of their choice.  This, in no way, affects any rewards program you get as a shopper - it simply accumulates points for dollars spent shopping at Kroger and they then cut a check to AKG each quarter.  Easy, pain free way to earn extra $ for the guild.

European Retreat

My name is Simone (aka OwlCat Designs) and besides designing knitwear and teaching workshops here in the US, I am working on launching two knitting/slow stitching retreats in my home country Switzerland.

I am offering two retreats in August 2018, the first one is a Knitting retreat with classes by Nancy Marchant and myself. We will stay on the grounds of a historic castle and take day trips into the surrounding area (medieval town and chocolate factory, anyone?). The second one is a Slow Stitching retreat up in a car free village on the sunny slopes of the alps, with a broader approach to fiber arts. We will be working on a few thoughtful projects using embroidery, hand sewing and knitting, and we'll get to enjoy a local artists class on making a wooly sheep that looks just like the sheep we are hoping to visit on our guided hike with a local shepherd.

The website with all the details is here
