Library MakerFest comes to Northeast FL

NEFLIN is hosting the
Library
MakerFest
this year. NEFLIN's first edition of the all-day Maker extravaganza will debut May 4, 2018, at the
Clay County Fairgrounds
in Green Cove Springs.
Thanks go to our friends at TBLC who had been offering this event for the past three years.
We are now registering attendees and presenters. If you would like to be part of the event with a booth in our Showcase section (a poster session-type presentation area) or on Maker's Row (a hands-on area for attendees to create a take-home memory of MakerFest) please see this page for more information.

If you just want to attend LMF, no problem. The event lasts from 9AM-4PM, but you don't have to stay for the entire day. Come and go as you like. We will have a food truck on hand for your lunching pleasure - we'll pass along those details as soon as we sign the contract!

"As your executive director, I commit to strengthening the collective voice of the profession so libraries are clearly heard by the Florida Legislature and Executive Branch; enhancing programs and benefits for members through technology advancements and robust communications channels; streamlining the strategic goals of the association at the direction of the FLA board of directors and committees; and seeking partnerships with allied organizations with an aim to strengthen the financial health of your association.

But, as we know, Rome was not built in a day and even Marvel Avengers "assemble" when saving the planet.
This is where I ask for your partnership. To create a sustainable organization and move FLA forward into the future, I ask that you, too, commit to FLA by volunteering your time on committees; answering important calls to action when library funding or programming is threatened; participating in FLA events and initiatives; donating to scholarship funds to build a pipeline of future leadership; and providing expertise and information by authoring articles for the Florida Libraries journal. Whether you have an hour to spare or a schedule that allows for ongoing participation, FLA needs your voice and engagement!"

Featured Trainer: Michael Clark
|
 One of NEFLIN's more popular trainers, Michael Clark, is back with some great classes on Management and Leadership. Michael was the instructional force behind our Management Training Institute program over the past couple of years. We thought that his classes were so good that we should offer them to more of our members even though we are not doing MTI this year.
Michael brings a wealth of knowledge having been a Training and Performance Director for various Florida state agencies for many years. He has also run his own consulting firm, MRC Consulting, for over fifteen years. This great background in teaching professionals, combined with his Psychology and Education academic work makes for a powerful experience for those who attend his workshops.
These classes are not necessarily a series - you can pick and choose from the listings as you please. You don't need to take all of them if there are certain classes that will better benefit you than others.
If you're interested in promoting within your current organization or making yourself a more appealing candidate for other opportunities, don't miss out on these essential classes!

Member Spotlight: Kim Dolce
|
Kim has been interested in genealogy for many years, having caught the "genealogy bug" from her mother while growing up in Burlington, NJ, a suburb of Philadelphia. Her father's family came to the US from Italy, and most of her mother's family has been in Burlington County, NJ sin
ce the 1600s.
Kim joined the staff of the Volusia County Library System (VCPL) in 1980, and has been the genealogy/local history librarian at the Daytona Beach Regional Library since 2011. She currently serves as the vice president of her local genealogy society. She has attended two national genealogy conferences, and several smaller conferences and seminars within Florida, and is always trying to increase her genealogical knowledge. Kim is constantly surprised at the variety of questions she receives, and enjoys the challenge of finding answers for the patrons who are searching for information.
Kim has been a member of her church choir, a judge at the local and state history fairs for students, and a volunteer Guardian ad Litem for over 30 years each. She also enjoys traveling to Ireland (when possible), contra dancing, and spending time with her two cats, Kerry and Reilly.
