March 15, 2018
What has changed
As of the late hours of Thursday, March 15, 2018, the Australian Government has released regulations for the new Temporary Skills Shortage (Subclass 482) visa and announced that these regulations will take effect Sunday, March 18, 2018.
Who is affected
Clients who would like to employ foreign workers to come to work in Australia.
What to expect
The timing of this announcement provides only one working day’s notice of the transition from the Temporary Work (Skilled) (Subclass 457) visa to the Temporary Skills Shortage (Subclass 482) visa, rather than the week that was previously indicated by the authorities. All existing Temporary Work (Skilled) (Subclass 457) visa applications already filed will be decided under the law prevailing at the time of application. For more details on the new Temporary Skills Shortage (Subclass 482) visa, please s ee our earlier bulletins.

Please note that the Skilling Australians Fund levy has not yet been yet introduced. It is expected that it will be introduced  shortly after the Australian Senate resumes sitting on Monday, March 19, 2018.
