Principal's Letter

Dear All Saints Families,

This week begins IOWA testing. This is nationally normed test that is mandated in all Catholic schools in the southeastern province. The superintendents of the province are meeting later this month to decide on the standardized test to adopt for the next few years. The IOWA and MAP's are being considered along with two other tests. I will keep you updated on this decision. As stated, we complete the IOWA in grades 2 through 8. As it is a new test in second grade, the test is not timed and is read to them, except for the reading portion. Once in third grade the test is timed and not read to the students. The test results take some time to get back to schools and is used as a strategy to drive the end of the year and the next year instruction. I know it seems we have done a lot of testing this year. We put a lot of emphasis on the MAP testing this year as it was new and it needed our attention. As we are committed to continuing with the MAP's testing for the next three years, we will still have to complete the Diocesan mandated test. I am positive in moving forward the MAP tests will be a quick two hours three times a year. It will not seem as prevalent as it was this first year. It will become as easy to our students as taking our SRI or reading counts. For those of you who missed our MAP's talk it is now uploaded on our website under news.

This week our National Junior Honor Society members are doing simple collections for two very worthy causes. One collection is for the Humane Society and this student is gathering dog and cat food, cat litter, toys, and blankets. The second student is collecting for the Homeless Coalition, gathering socks and cans of soup. Any donation will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Our school began a new procedure for going and returning to/from Mass this past Thursday. Before our students begin the walk over to church, an inspection is done of the parking lot and church. If there are any concerns, a report will be made to the appropriate persons. There will always be two adults with stop signs at the road, being vigilant of the surroundings. Teachers and assistants are vigilant over students and are not always available to check the surroundings. We ask that you please do not remove your child from the class line to talk to them for an extended time without the teacher being fully aware. We want every student walking with his/her class so that the teacher can account for each child. Thank you for your attention in this matter. It is for the safety of every child.

Finally, this is the time of year we recognize the amazing physical growth of our children. Parents please pay special attention to the boys' length of pants and the girls' lengths of skirts/skorts. Many are far too short. Our used uniform store is open this Wednesday morning. Also, during spring break take the opportunity to lengthen hems or visit Harris Uniforms. After spring break we will be monitoring uniform infractions closely.

Yours in Christ,
Mrs. Jill Broz
