Studded tire season ends March 31
Motorists using studded tires in Oregon after March 31 may face a fine of $165.

Under state law, studded tires are only allowed between Nov. 1 and March 31 because of potential damage to roads. When it rains, water collects in the pavement ruts caused by studded tires. In cold weather, that water can freeze and cause extra-slippery roads.

Drivers can use other traction devices, such as chains or all-season tires approved for use in the snow, after April 1 if driving snowy roads and highways.
