PRINCIPAL'S LETTER

Dear H oly Name Families,

can't  believe how fast this year is going! On Thursday our 5th Graders are singing in a Chorale Festival! Next week 4th Grade is off to Gold Camp! In almost two weeks we will be starting our Easter Break! Our Kindergartners and 8th Graders will be graduating in two months! As this year is quickly coming to a close I hope that you will continue to be as involved in our final fundraiser- the Tough Cookie Run- and the many additional activities we still have planned such as our Father-Daughter Dance next week. Tomorrow is Donut Wednesday! We also have our Talent Show Friday morning in the school gym, and we hope you attend!

As we prepare for Easter please remember all families are invited to our Holy Thursday Stations of the Cross. This year we will have our Stations of the Cross on Thursday, March 29th at 8:30AM. We hope that you will join us for the beautiful celebration our students are preparing. Additionally, our Palm Sunday Mass on March 25th will be sponsored by 7th Grade.

Parent Guild Update: I have not yet been able to contact all parents who were nominated for parent guild. Nominations will be sent home in a separate email once all parents have confirmed their desire to be on next year's parent guild. Thank you for sending in your nominations!

Seismic Update: We are moving forward with our seismic project! We have had many meetings with our architects, project manager, and construction team. Exploratory work continues in the hallways and classrooms so if you see random holes and tape please know we are not neglecting the school! We are simply preparing for the scope of the summer project. We are finalizing our fundraising plan in the coming month, and we remain confident that our plan is strong, manageable, and ensures for the future sustainability and success of the school.

Tomorrow we will be going to the Archdiocese to apply for a loan so please keep us in your prayers! Our goal is still to complete the work entirely over this summer, but we will know tomorrow if we need to postpone the gym aspect of the work until the summer of 2019. (Don't worry- the school calendar will be back to normal for the 2019-2020 school year even if we have a little construction left to do. The biggest part of the project is this summer which is why we needed the longer summer.).

Boiler Work: In order to save a week of work over summer, we will be removing the boiler over Spring Break. Some of the work will begin on March 29th so I have asked teachers to not have any tests or homework so that students are not affected by the noise. Since workers will also be doing some light work in the hallways and cubby rooms I have asked that students do not bring backpacks and lunch bags on this day. Since it is a 12:30PM Dismissal, students will attend Stations of the Cross followed by an extended recess period. Students will then partake in various games and activities for the day. Thanks for your understanding in sending students with bagged lunch snacks that day.

Summer School Update: We still plan to have summer school during the month of June. After tomorrow's meeting with the Archdiocese, we will have a better understanding of the full scope of our summer project and the space that we will be able to use for summer school. Next week information will be sent home about summer school with details of how and where it will be ran.

 Service Hour Opportunities:
  • FUN RUN- Please join our Fun Run planning committee. Please email Mariel Myers at marielmyers1@gmail.com.
  • BOILER ROOM - We need to empty the Boiler Room to prepare for the work over break. We are looking for a few parents to help move items into another room. Please email Vince directly at vdelucca@holynamesf.com if you are able to help.
We hope you all have a great week!

Thanks,
Natalie Cirigliano, Principal

A MESSAGE FROM FATHER ARNOLD

March 13, 2018

They say, a grateful heart is always thankful under any circumstance...
A discontented soul complains even in paradise...
Counting our blessings and not our troubles is one of the secrets of being happy.
A song can change a moment.
An idea can change the world.
A step can start a journey.
But a prayer can change even the most impossible.
Pray from your heart, God always listens.
Blessings,
Fr. Arnold

VIDEO GAME NIGHT
Video Game Night is coming April 14!

It's time for the second annual Holy Name Video Game Night!  Last year was a blast and we all had a great time playing Guitar Hero, Super Smash Bros, Crazy Taxi, Street Fighter and a ton of other great games long into the night!

We're hoping you can loan us:
  • Your large flat-screen TV for a night!
  • Your game console for a night!
  • 4 hours of your time to help out during the night - ticket taking, bouncer, etc ;-)

Anyone willing to help out with any of those things, or if you'd just like to know more, email josh.walker@gmail.com

VISION SCREENING
Vision Screenings were performed on Feb 28th and March 1st at school.  We would like to thank the parent volunteers who helped screen over 180 students in Grades K, 1,3, 5, 7 (plus new students):
Noreen Chan and Veena Singh (organizers)
Reyna Sanos (Noreen's daughter)
Jennifer Alawal
Louisa Salas
Edwin Chow
Judy Hirschler
Angela Shen
Carol Chang
Letters were sent home only to those children who did not pass the screening, so keep an eye out for that information.

Vision screening programs are intended to identify children who may have undetected vision problems. If the screening indicates a vision problem, the child should be evaluated by a doctor.  Undetected and untreated vision problems can interfere with a child's ability to learn in school and participate in sports. However, screenings are limited in that they can find some, but not all vision problems. Screenings do not replace regular eye examinations. A comprehensive eye examination by an optometrist or ophthalmologist is recommended for all children by Kindergarten, and then every 1-2 years through the school-age years.

DAVE & BUSTER'S CARDS ON SALE AGAIN!
Your child brought home an order form for Dave & Buster's cards. They are on sale for $20. These card would make great gifts, parties, or spring break! Click here if you'd like an additional form.
