31st Annual Pacifica Synod Assembly - May 18 to 19, 2018
The 2018 Pacifica Synod Assembly will meet at Hope Lutheran in Palm Desert for a two-day assembly on May 18 and 19, 2018. The theme for this year's Assembly is "Go and Tell: Giving Voice to Faith, Justice and Blessing".

The assembly will begin on Friday, May 18 with registration opening at 7 a.m. and the opening session at 9 a.m. The assembly will end on Saturday, May 19 at noon.

The 2018 Synod Assembly web page has been updated with details about the assembly including registration, hotel info, nominations, schedule, special guests and more.

Your congregation's early bird registration invoice was mailed to the attention of your Congregation Treasurer in January. The deadline to receive the early bird rate has passed. The invoice contained the number of voting members assigned to your congregation. Please keep in mind that payment of this invoice did not register individuals from your congregation.

Online registration for voting members and guests is now open. Registration instructions to guide you through the process may be found here. Please use the worksheet to assemble the information you will need BEFORE you go online to register. Once you have your information compiled, follow this registration link to begin the registration process.

If you have questions about your Synod Assembly invoice or registration for the assembly, please contact Terri Robertson at [email protected].

Vacation Bible School Curriculum from ELCA World Hunger
"God's Good Creation," ELCA World Hunger's new vacation Bible school program for 2018, invites children of all ages to explore the many gifts God has given our world - and the ways these gifts can help end hunger.

Each day focuses on a different animal that is part of the more than 200 projects supported by ELCA World Hunger around the world, including chicks, goats and bees. Rooted in Lutheran theology, children will learn how God has called them to use their gifts to help their neighbors. The leader's guide includes large group openings and closings, skits, small group Bible studies, games and crafts for up to five days of fun and faith. It also includes sample schedules, tips for including children of all abilities and song suggestions.

Themes for each day:
* Day 1 - God created the world, and it is good (Genesis 1:31).
* Day 2 - God can use you whatever size you are (Matthew 13:31-32).
* Day 3 - God made everyone different and important (1 Corinthians 12:4-6).
* Day 4 - Jesus uses us to bring miracles to life (Matthew 14:20).
* Day 5 - Working together, we can change the world (Ephesians 4:11-12).

Join Bishop Eaton at the Rally to End Racism April 4!
In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr., the Rev. Elizabeth A. Eaton, presiding bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), will join ecumenical and inter-religious partners for Act Now: Unite to End Racism April 3-5 in Washington, D.C. The focus of the three-day event will be a rally April 4 on the National Mall.

The event, organized by the National Council of Churches in Christ in the USA, will bring together many ELCA members from across the country. The ELCA is a founding member of the council.

The rally's call to action emphasizes three key points: awaken to the truth that racism is evil and hurts us all; confront racism through truth-telling and action to right the wrong; and transform the hearts, minds, and behaviors of people and institutions.

Events begin April 3 with an ecumenical worship service at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral and will be capped off by a lobby day on Capitol Hill April 5.

All are invited to join Bishop Eaton at the event. Learn more here.

Save the Date - Sept 9  for "God's Work. Our Hands." Sunday
Please save the date Sunday, Sept. 9, for "God's work. Our hands." Sunday.

As members of the ELCA, we believe we are called, gathered and sent into the world to embody the good news of Jesus' death and resurrection - called into relationship with God, gathered together as a community of believers and sent into the world to love and serve our neighbors.

On "God's work. Our hands." Sunday, we join together to use our various gifts in service to our communities - this is work you do every day, sharing the love of Christ with all of God's people.

Watch the video below to see how our congregations have put their faith in action since 2013 for this dedicated day of service.

If your congregation cannot participate on Sept. 9, please consider another time.

Save the date and visit ELCA.org/dayofservice for updates to our resources.

Care Connections Network - Orange County
Care Connections Network is a nonprofit membership organization dedicated to empowering older adults and changing how we all think about aging. We work with existing community organizations and vetted service providers to connect our members to services that are designed to assist older adults with staying active and remaining in their own homes. We are part of the Village to Village Network, a nation-wide group of community-based organizations dedicated to changing how people age in America and are one of the few faith-based villages. We are a social ministry of Lutheran Church of the Resurrection and have received support and encouragement from the ELCA. Our educational and social programs are open to everyone in the community.

We offer:
  • Lifelong learning and educational opportunities to help you age with confidence
  • Social and cultural events to help you stay connected with the community
  • Referrals to vetted and trusted service providers

Love the Earth Youth Challenge - Region 2
WE ARE God's beautiful creation, and it's called caretakers too.
We encourage youth to sprout a project of their choice any day until April 30 to celebrate creation-- whether it be to serve together in a community garden, start a compost project, feed the hungry, host a yard sale to promote reusing items... the options are endless. Creativity thrives in our youth! Send a 30 second video clip of your youth in action, and we'll stitch them together to present at the 2018 National Youth Gathering. Let's support our youth inspiring God's love of creation.
